Katie Holmes made the big screen on Batman's arm, and has dominated the tabloids as Tom Cruise's love interest. Now she comes to the computer, with a screensaver that offers about 20 images of the young actress. Unfortunately, the quality of the photos is generally low, marred by JPEG overcompression. The software itself provides a fairly extensive feature set for a free download, allowing users control over transition effects, image size, background, and the interval between images. A few special effects such as sepia tone are included. Any image can be used as wallpaper for a computer's desktop, and users can leave a virtual sticky note onscreen while the program is running. But the screensaver comes bundled with a separate Internet Explorer toolbar, so be cautious if you don't want this extra component on your computer. The program may appeal to avid Katie Holmes fans, but otherwise, we'd recommend looking elsewhere.
