"No more Journler - development ends :((("

What a tragedy, my favorite hub of everything information, Journler, is going belly up. I really hope there will be a way to save the company/app since it's far to great to just disappear.

"Great app"

I really like this app, it has all the right tools to where the everyday Joe could easily understand and not a bunch of useless stuff that most will never use, the UI is not bad and seems to be fast. Of course everything needs fine tuning. That's an on going thing though, like fighting for freedom.

"Finally understood the concept... Awesome software!"

It took me a while to fully apprehend Journler. A couple of months ago I checked it out for the first time, played around with it and dumped it.
This time around I have a project at my hand (writing a lenghty article for an industry publication) which I had a few problems to organize in a meaningful way. After "stumbling" over Journler for the second time I decided to give it a new try. Bingo! Perfect for my needs, and seems to be very stable. Lovely.

Summary

...Journler
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
If you are considering buying and using this App, two things to keep in mind. First, the name is misleading (in my opinion)â??it's not mis-descriptive (it handles the "journal" function quite well) rather the scope is far broader. Journler is what Chandler, NoteBook, Outlook, DevonThink, SOHO Notes, Yojimbo, etc., etc. aspire to be. Second, it is "donationware" (like shareware, but on the honor system). When i was new to Mac, that put me off (in the Windows world even upgrades cost >$100). Don't let it. That's just a peculiar feature of the Mac Universe. In fact, some of the finest Mac Apps are distributed this way (or were for a while)â??e..g., Quicksilver. Now the Review: PIMs have been around a long time, but even on the Mac Platform, it astonishes me how they all struggle with "essential" tasks or organization. Here's an example. I just want to be able to go to my "file" for "Project X" and once there i ought to be able to browse everything that relates to Project Xâ??web pages, e-mail, images, .pdf files, App-specific documents, clipboard contents. Second, i ought to be able to put all of those things into Project X folder very easily (which means easily tagging it as "Proj. X" data and e..g, having a menu item in the "services" dropdown that lets me quickly put whatever i've got in front of me into the Proj. X file). Journler is the first App I've found that gets this right. Aside from that, Journler has that same "feel" to it that i get when i use Quicksilver, TM, or OO3â??it's a lot smarter than me; it has that subtle, gorgeous intuitiveness and aesthetic; and it stays out of my way until i need it to do something,

Thanks for a great app and your attentive and patient support. Downloaded this new version and have no problems with it thus far. Tried several journaling apps, and this is my favorite. Use it daily.

I never used an application, that was as intuitiuve to use like this. Every button lets you feel, the developer uses this application himself. And he is hearing to the wishes and problems of Journlers community!

"changed my life"

Summary

I decided to move to a paperless home office. Using journler and a ScanSnap sheet fed scanner I went from 5 file drawers to one.

Every piece of paper entering the house gets shredded or scanned and then shredded.

Journlers use of hierarchal smart folders makes it easy to file documents(scanned pdf's, emails, web pages, notes) and more importantly easy to find them.
I decided some time ago not to use software without an active user community. Journler has one. It includes the developer who seems to work 24 hours a day .

I left Yojimbo to use journler. The best decision made this year!

"Awesome information manager"

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Journler is amazingly flexible. Its unique "nested smart folders" lets you organize your data however you like, and its robust applescript support makes it easy to extend.

I've been using it to keep track of my to-do list ala Getting Things Done, with smart folders for contexts, projects, etc. I save random webpages to Journler. I search it instantaneously from Quicksilver (scripts available on the forums.) In fact, I've put all my random text files/PDFs in here because it's so much faster than Spotlight for searching.

Finally, I use Journler to keep track of my work. I link to files that I create, and in Journler I write comments about how I made the files, link to other relevant files or entries, etc. It's like the finder info field on steroids.

And it's donationware for personal use.

Finally, the developer is amazingly responsive. I've been involved in beta testing the most recent version, and I frequently had my feature requests implemented by the next day!
