It "hides" folders from Windows by converting them to links to the control panel, but it's too bad this tiny freeware is so easy to work around. Iron Privacy's dialog-sized interface needs room only for a file tree and three buttons. A single tip is all the help any user would need to run this application.
Locking a folder is the mere matter of selecting it and clicking the Lock button. The folder gets a Windows Registry key number attached to it. It doesn't disappear from view. You can still see it with Windows Explorer, but if you click the folder you merely open the Control Panel folder. Unlocking is the same process. You just choose the item and click Unlock. Seriously, this product couldn't be easier to use.
Unfortunately, it couldn't be easier to work around the lock. You just need to remove the Registry key number from the folder name. Yes, a simple rename defeats this tool. Sure, Iron Privacy is free, takes little resources, and is simple to use. But it's way too easy to defeat to earn our recommendation.

Version: Iron Privacy Folder 2
"Not Secure, Useless Piece of Garbage"
Pros: It's free?
Cons: Just converts folder into a hard link to your control panel. Includes optional ad-ware toolbar. There was never a version one.
This developer seems to keep repackaging this app with a new name & website. Yet, you can never seem to contact him. Tactics are questionable.

Version: Iron Privacy Folder 2
"it's a mess! don't download it. will lose your files."
Pros: no pros. nothing. the worst i've ever used.
Cons: loses your folders. and you WON'T get them back! they'll just disappear one day, and you'll go to extremes to get them back, until you realize they've been lost forever. and then you will regret having used it.
Summary: it's a piece of crap. not only worthless but deceptive.
the best you can get is hide your files, without password protection, for a few days.
the worst is, you'll lose your files when it fails, and it will (as i've read similar complai... read more >> -
Version: Iron Privacy Folder 2
"Very useful for hiding folders on Removable disks"
Pros: 1. Easy to use
2. Locks several GBs of folder in no time
3. Very fastCons: Yes removing the Registry key number from the folder name defeats this software.(But this can only be achieved thru CMD prompt)
Summary: I like this software especially cos my data is stored on the USB Hard disk which is exchanged in many hands. I wanted to hide the folder which is in GBs sizes. I tried 100s of popular softwares in market but all are less useful cos,
