CNET Editors' review
The name might not be the most creative, but the Internet Download Manager does exactly what it promises: helps you download and organize files. The best part is that you can schedule downloads and use filters to get the specific files you want.
The compact interface is packed with options, but the main features are easily accessed from a toolbar at the top. We would have liked to see a bit more user guidance up front, but a tutorial does cover the basics, and there is a more detailed Help file if you get stuck. You can also go the easier route with the program's integrated Web browser options, which work with nearly all of the most popular browsers, including Internet Explorer and Firefox. Each time the program recognizes a video in FLV format on a site like YouTube, you'll see a button, and it's one click and you're off and running. From the main interface, all you have to do is add the URL for a video to get started. A new window shows you the status and allows you to pause the recording and set up a few options for what to do with the file once the download completes. As advertised, the speed was good and we didn't have any issues with test files we downloaded, which included MP3s, FLVs, and MPEGs. Our favorite feature was the scheduler, which was easy to set up and lets you choose where and when the program will download files. We especially liked the fact that if you lose your Internet connection, the program will resume downloading your selected or scheduled files once everything's up and running again.
The download and installation of IDM was easy and fast, and it uninstalled cleanly. If you're looking for a program that you can basically set and forget to video downloads, this is a good option.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of Internet Download Manager 6.12 build 15.

"Not worth buying"
Version: Internet Download Manager 6.07 build 12
Pros
This is a nice tool to have when downloading multiple files. Can download video just like Youtube Downloader.
Cons
In my case, I'm not getting better speed with this IDM. There are other free programs what will do the job in terms of managing multiple downloads, such as Orbit Downloader.
Summary
I'll give it a five-star if it is free. Try other alternative downloaders, which are free and ads-free.

"Amateur Program"
Version: Internet Download Manager 6.07 build 12
Pros
IDM work quite well but not better at all
Cons
People like NUDEBIE and many others who's given a full unbelievable 5 stars are probably all IDM staff or dependents.
Try this program with other CNET free stuff and see for yourself.Summary
Does not boost any speed at all!
Anyone can simply stop other process on their pc temporarily to allow downloading to speed up!
IDM is surpassed by many other programs currently available. Unlike IDM, many others are completely free for basic use.
While a few free software around do ask the user to take the offer of some trial offers when installing, they can be easily be untick off so that you need not take any trial offers!
In Britain, this IDM is amateurish. -

""Kick-ass progy with ZERO third party software."
Version: Internet Download Manager 6.07 build 12
Pros
This program does everything it says without the risks that are ALWAYS involved when a program (usually "free") allows third party software to also be installed, most of the time without your consent.:(
Cons
Too powerful! lol Don't test the "Grabber" function on YouTube. Canceled it quickly but every YouTube I went to after that wanted the "type the word nag" because of to many requests. Unplugged Telus moden for a minute to get new IP and no more nag.
Summary
***Causes some people to make a career out of suddenly opening an account just to bash IDM and scare people away from it. Wow I wonder what their motive is? Just click on the bashers names and you will see freshly created account dates. Click on mine and you will see that I have been a Member here since July 29, 2003 and have only posted 2 reviews both about IDM. I just felt that I had to get the word out.
Forgot to put this in:
Beware of "FREE" stuff. Nothing is free, you will get third party crap and viruses. Not this program though! Full 5 Stars from CNET Editors with a description of "trusty". Doesn't get any safer then that. If you want free viruses then go somewhere else.
This program works flawlessly if your computer is properly updated and not already polluted. After installing run Internet Explorer and go to YouTube. You will get the bottom bar asking you if you want to enable Internet Download Manager add-on. Yes! Then close and open Internet Explorer. When you go to a video page it will have a "Download Video" bar just above the video on the right. Does the same for just music also. Sorts everything into categories Programs, Documents, Music, Videos, etc. Now for an .flv player/converter with the same high standards! I would rather pay a few bucks to have a secure and virus free progy. And by the way, for those who think they are smart and hunt for a crack and actually find one well you take the CNET Dumb Award for inviting viruses.

Was to the point of thinking that there would never be a progy like this that didn't pollute your putter. E-mailed the company and asked them. Their response: "We do not install any third party software. Our politic in this direction is very strict. We will never include any 3rd party software in IDM." Just hammering the point home:)
