Publisher's description of Internet Download Manager 5.09 build 4
From Tonec:Internet Download Manager is a tool for increasing download speeds by up to 5 times, and for resuming, scheduling, and organizing downloads. The program will resume unfinished downloads due to network problems, or unexpected power outages. Internet Download Manager can connect to the Internet at a set time, download the files you want, then disconnect or even shut down your computer when it's done. The program features a full-fledged site grabber that downloads files that are specified with filters, for example, all pictures from a Web site, different parts of web sites, or complete web sites for offline browsing. The program supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and MMS protocols, and has an adaptive download accelerator for MP3 audio and MPEG video files. It integrates into Opera, Mozilla, Internet Explorer, Firefox, MSN, AOL, and into any application that uses FTP, or HTTP protocols. Internet Download Manager fully supports Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7.
Version 5.09 build 4 shows a dialog if a site does not allow requesting the same file twice and if the site sends a web page to IDM instead of a download. This is the case when the browser sends the first request, then IDM takes over the download and sends the second, and the replies from the site are different. The dialog shows instructions how to download the file with IDM.

- Version reviewed: Internet Download Manager 5.09 build 4
Don't let the dull name fool you: Internet Download Manager is a full-featured package that handles downloading tasks with aplomb. It conveniently integrates into your browser, even if you use Mozilla or Opera.
It automatically sorts incoming files by file type and puts them in the appropriate folder. Most importantly, it supercharges download speeds (it doubled ours). Its windowed interface is clean and easy to understand. Power users can take advantage of the command line interface to resume file transfers, schedule downloads, connect through dial-up, or log on to password-protected sites. Experienced users also can limit the number of connections, the download speeds for specific sites, and even create an exception list to block specific, user-defined sites.
Other features include automatic virus checking and the ability to download all files linked to a page. The new version has a Web spider that can analyze a site and retrieve, for example, all the images on it.
Internet Download Manager strikes us as a natural choice for users in need of a trusty transfer tool.

"Tried the rest but this is the best!"
Pros: The best and fastest download manager there is! Tried them all but Internet Download Manager tops them all. IMHO, Internet Download Manager is about 10x and higher faster than most download manager out there.
Cons: The interface is kinda simple to some people including me.

"Best d'load manager I've ever had."
Pros: Makes my DSL download speeds at over 900 KBS. Great organization of d'loaded files. Resume and site grabbing capability, can be customized thru the interface to be made to work with all browsers. And also important is the great tech support by the company. This app is big time recommended.
Cons: None for the app, but,
Oh look! We have a troll here who has seen fit to give a not helpful vote to all these great reviews on IDM. Well, I've got news troll. I've given a helpful vote to everybody. You loose butt head. Get lost!

"Fastest Internet Download Manager I could find without spyware"
Pros: Very clean and intuitive interface. Integrates well with several well-known browsers. Can also attempt to integrate with other web-enabled applications. You can choose to either have it take over all downloads by default, and override individual ones with a hotkey press, or the other way around. Can queue and schedule downloads for when you are not sitting at your PC. Can resume partially completed downloads. Allows you to relocate it temporary download folder (which means you can move it to a faster hard drive partition or even separate hard drive altogether). I downloaded a 900+ MB file from Microsoft in 16 minutes (IE reported it would've taken 1 hour and 17 minutes without IDM).
Cons: Some might not like having to pay for software, but, that's how programmers make a living! In my opinion, this software is well worth the money if you download a lot. A couple of the dialogs could be laid out a little better--the tabbing order is really bad on one of them (i.e. when you press tab to advance through the GUI), but this is a minor annoyance. It also seems hard-coded to open the download folder in Windows Explorer; I'd prefer if it used the default handler for folders (I use Directory Opus as a Windows Explorer Replacement), again a minor annoyance.

Version: Internet Download Manager 5.09 build 4
Pros: Just want to add that other than being a handy download manager, IDM offers great protection against malicious software. Files that would normally download unnoticed in the background are announced by IDM and the user is asked if s/he wants to download the file. It's perhaps an accidental feature but one that alone makes this software worth the price.
