Don't let the dull name fool you: Internet Download Manager is a full-featured package that handles downloading tasks with aplomb. It conveniently integrates into your browser, even if you use Mozilla or Opera.
It automatically sorts incoming files by file type and puts them in the appropriate folder. Most importantly, it supercharges download speeds (it doubled ours). Its windowed interface is clean and easy to understand. Power users can take advantage of the command line interface to resume file transfers, schedule downloads, connect through dial-up, or log on to password-protected sites. Experienced users also can limit the number of connections, the download speeds for specific sites, and even create an exception list to block specific, user-defined sites.
Other features include automatic virus checking and the ability to download all files linked to a page. The new version has a Web spider that can analyze a site and retrieve, for example, all the images on it.
Internet Download Manager strikes us as a natural choice for users in need of a trusty transfer tool. Version 5.11 build 5 added FLV grabber that can be used to download videos from YouTube, Google Video, MySpaceTV, and other popular sites.
Publisher's description
From Tonec :Internet Download Manager is a tool for increasing download speeds by up to 5 times, and for resuming, scheduling, and organizing downloads. The program will resume unfinished downloads due to lost connections, network problems, or unexpected power outages. It can connect to the Internet at a set time, download the files you want, and disconnect or shut down your computer when it's done. It supports FTP, HTTP, and SHTTP protocols, MP3 audio files, and MPEG video-content processing.

Version: Internet Download Manager 4.07
"This version, best I have ever used"
Pros: I have used this Download Manager for years. Then I went and tried other download managers that were better at the time. Now I have come back to IDM because its the best that there is, bar none. I like it's ability to open eight download streams even if the file is only available from one source. This ability saturates your available bandwidth, for maximum performance every time. I have a P4 1.3 GHz 512MB of RDRAM running Win XP Pro and Broadband. My transfer rate with Broadband is twice that specified by my ISP.

Version: Internet Download Manager 4.07
Pros: Low on memory hogging, quick start up and non intrusive intergration. Option to download with or without using the program and set which file types it automatically manages.
Cons: Annoying need for putting things into it's designated folder categories - I cannot seem to turn this off and I think that's dumb. Doesn't really speed things up even when splitting the file and using different mirrors. Sometimes files are put into a strange internet download manager file type and you can't retrieve them after waiting ages for it to download. Confusing and not worth paying for.

Version: Internet Download Manager 4.07
"Very Good Download Manager for newbies"
Pros: It has an excellent browser integration since it was one of the few that integrates with Opera. Nice resume downloads feature as well as the file splitting.
Cons: Doesn't really speeds up downloads, it rather hogs the bandwidth for the downloaded files. If this program could have the ability to limit the bandwidth utilization for the files then it will become the best download manager in the market.
