CNET Editors' review
IconsExtract allows users to scan their computers for icon and cursor files and then save them elsewhere on their machine. Although there's not much to this program, it does function as described.
The program's interface is basic and consists of a single screen. Users can designate particular folders to scan or, alternately, can have the program scan individual programs. Users can scan for icons, cursors, or both, and can also restrict the search by size and color depth. We had the program search our entire hard drive and it took several minutes, which isn't unreasonable when it returned more than 14,000 results. Searches of individual folders and applications were significantly faster. The resulting icons and cursors are displayed alphabetically within the program, and users can save selected icons and cursors or copy them into the clipboard. The Details view allows users to sort the icons by size and file type as well. The program has no Help file, but its functions are so basic that we didn't miss it. Overall, the program was very easy to use and provided quick results. Although some users may prefer a more refined interface, the program does what it was designed to do.
IconsExtract is free. It comes as a ZIP file and runs after extraction, with no need for installation. We recommend this program to users who need a quick and easy way to find icons and cursors on their computers.
Publisher's Description
From NirSoft Freeware:
It is a utility that scans the files and folders on your computer, and extracts the icons and cursors stored in EXE, DLL, OCX, CPL, and in other file types. You can save the extracted icons to ICO files (or CUR files for cursors), or copy the image of a single icon into the clipboard.
What's new in this version: Version 1.47 has added -scanpath command-line option, which allows you to start IconsExtract with another base folder or wildcard.

"Simple, works, and FREE!"
Version: IconsExtract 1.47
Pros
It searched my windows directory in only a few minutes found 30,000 icons, extracted the ones I wanted and I was set!
Cons
I'd like to see it be able to make icon libraries so you can extract the ones you want and combine them into one file.
Summary
It does what it says, if you need to find come icons, it works great!
