Publisher's description
From Erwan L. :IP Sniffer is a suite of IP Tools built around a packet sniffer. The packet sniffer can work on all Windows versions using either: the new raw socket implementation of Windows2000 (driverless), WinPcap (needs to be installed), a NDIS protocol (needs to be installed , no reboot). IP sniffer is a protocol analyzer, that will use the XP/2K Raw Socket features.
IP Sniffer is also a suite of IP Tools like: IP trafic monitor, IP statistics, ARP (list & deleter entries, send request), Netbios Names, Route Print, Netstat (shows process attached to a connection, kill attached process, kill tcp entry), Network informations (Params, Adapters, Cards), Spoofing (TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP), WINS Query, DNS Query (using win32 DNSAPI), DHCP Find, WHOIS, Resolve IP / Hostname, PING (Host & Subnet), TCP Scan (Host & Subnet). This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.

"WoW - You have to see it to believe it !"
Pros: I absolutely love sniffers. I must have about half a dozen - currently on my disk :) and obviously a lot of work went into creating IP Sniffer.
Tthe list of tools is impressive - process mgr, lan monitor, adapter statistics, tcp tools, udp tools, etc., etc., not to mention the functional packet capture, hex, and frame decoders that are also seamlessly integrated into the easy to navigate, single window interface.
Additionally, captures can be from any valid adapter (phone or broadband) using WinPcap or RAW IP (included) and saved, analyzed, and filtered to extreme detail. IP Tools itself only uses 14mb ram when at "idle" (for analysis) which increases relative to the "capture to screen" active state. There is an option for logging to disk as well. You have to see all these features to believe it. There are just too many to list here.
No crashes - not during installation or operation (on XP with 1024mb ram) or active captures, or passive analysis testing. My install is a mere 11mb on the disk. No firewall "alerts" either. IP Sniffer does add drivers and services as needed which triggered some warnings from Spy Sweeper. And, there is a setting labeled "Internet Host" with a default of google that needs an internet connection . Why is just one of the mysteries in IP Sniffer.
Cons: And there are dozens - too many to list here - all because there is *no* documentation. Nothing. The home web site just lists the obvious and adds no further detail nor reference to any. All i could do was cross my fingers and click on many features (literally) and see what happens. To this day i still don't know how to use TCP Scan. Without at least a hint more than the feature's name, much of what this program could do is beyond me.
The lack of documentation and background services / component initializatons are disconserting, to say the least, but at this point the only major "cons" i could find. Keep in mind the author and home site are both "free.FR" where the native language c'est France. Vive la France ! Check it out.
