Selecting your printer
This software is a replacement for the basic printing support that came installed with Mac OS X. After installing this software:
- Open PrintCenter (in Applications/Utilities)
- Delete any hp deskjet printers that are present
- Quit PrintCenter, then open it again
- If your hp deskjet printers are not listed, go to "Add Printer", select "USB", and add your printers
HP is constantly updating and improving our printer software. For the best performance from your hp deskjet printer, you should check to ensure that you are using the latest software release.
Known issues
Mac OS X will not allow you to choose two printers of the same model when connected via USB. You will only be able to select and use only one of your printers. HP is working with Apple to correct this in a future OS X update.
Feature differences between Mac OS 8/9 and X printing
The following features of the OS 8/9 software are not available with the OS X software. HP and Apple are working to add them to future releases:
- AppleTalk printing
- Custom paper sizes
- Two-sided printing
- Back-to-front printing
- Zoomsmart
- Booklet printing
- Poster printing
- Rotate 180?
- Mirror image printing
- ColorSync support
- Black & White printing
- Multiple saved settings
- Automatic image enhancements
Mac OS X does not automatically select the printer specific Page Setup settings for the selected printer. You will need to go to page setup for each document and select your printer. This will ensure correct margins for your hp deskjet printer.
Selecting "preview" from the print dialog will not reflect all print settings, including color, pages per sheet and quality.
Be sure to load paper according to the instructions in the user manual. If the paper is not properly loaded, the printed image may be skewed on the page.
Notes about specific applications
The following list describes some special situations that you should be aware of when working with specific applications. (There may be other problems with these applications or with other applications not mentioned in this document.) If you have problems printing from a specific application, it may be a problem in that application. If you have problems, contact the publisher of the application. In some cases a newer, more compatible version of the software may be available.
Preview
The Preview application will attempt to scale images and text to fit your page size. If the accuracy of the printed image size is important, use another application.
TextEdit
The TextEdit application will attempt to scale images and text to fit your page size. If the accuracy of the printed image size is important, use another application.
