This executable does such a great job of quickly extracting and saving icons that its plain-vanilla look won't bother you a bit. Select a source directory and a destination directory, hit Search, and you'll be amazed at how quickly GetIcon produces results. In seconds you'll see the number of icons found and the number of scanned files, all saved in the ICO format. The Search button would be more accurately labeled Execute since with one step, the application finds, extracts, and saves the files. It also would have helped if a Create Folder button were included. Despite these minor complaints, anyone wanting a speedy way to save their icons in one folder should get this handy freeware.

Summary
Anyone that likes to customize their computer, eventually gets around to wanting more ICONS. Changing them has usually been limited to what Windows gave you, or to what you have created or spent hours searching the net for. But with this tool, you can extract ALL the ICONS that are already on your computer! Not just the system ones, not just the ones you downloaded, but ALL of them! It searches files or folders you select, and takes off! I was SHOCKED to find what I already had! After having it search the entire C DRIVE, it found 40,008 ICONS! Some I had seen before, most I had not. Many came from games, and were simply beautiful! Now if I can get my jaw off the floor, I can start organizing them!

Swiftly found every icon on my computer in multiples, just in case. I had tons of unsorted icons in one folder as keepers to ensure that retro look if some update happens to change one of my icons.
Cons
After looking at this huge file of multiple duplicates and same old boring system icons, I deleted the entire folder and uninstalled GetIcon.
Summary
I am not sure what I was thinking collecting the same old system icons in order to customize the look of my computer. Spare yourself the time of deleting a ton of useless icons and uninstalling the software. Pass on this one!

It's SIMPLE. No BS. Just select the folder you want (I chose my entire C drive) and let 'er rip! (punn intended.) I ended up with a folder of over 13,000 icons!

I ended up with a folder of over 13,000 icons! This is my own fault, obviously. If anything I would have the developer add a way for GetIcon to recognize duplicates, even if the file name is different. Other than that I love it. It's small, simple, and did EXACTALY what I wanted.
