Downloaded it as a test at the request of a friend who was having problems downloading this program. He wanted to see if it was his problem or a general problem. It loaded find for me. Then the search suggestions, 'deals' pop-ups, and drop down coupons showed up everywhere. My main interest was getting rid of this cancer at that point! I guess that it might even work but I really didn't care at this point!

The ad ware that you will get appears on most of the web pages that you use and not just on the Freecorder application. Your browsers homepage will become a search engine that uses the web extension '.DO'. It looks a lot like Google but isn't. You will get many words highlighted on webpages that you got to that are actually links for a pay per click site called 'TidyNetwork.com'. You will also get a couple of other sycophant pieces of software that 'offer' you deal pop-ups and a drop down coupons box much of the time. Even worse, you get a program called 'Strongbox' which will want you to back-up your computer data on their 'cloud'. God help you if you should decided to use that, I suspect! If you use any of these worthless things, the company that owns Freecorder will get paid for your click (and probably for your 'Strongbox' data harvest too!). The good news is that I don't think that there is actual virus software included although some data harvesting may well be going on.
Summary
To dump this thing, go to your Windows computer's control panel and click on the 'Programs > Uninstall A Program' links. You will have about two to four programs with the name 'Freecorder' in them. You will also have to remove the 'Tidy Network' software, 'Strongbox', and a couple of others whose names I unfortunately didn't log. You should sort you programs by the date and remove the things that were downloaded at the time of your Freecorder download with some care, obviously! You will probably want to change your homepages in Chrome and Explorer to something other than Freecorder's 'preferred' search site which they have 'nicely' provided for you.
If you use Firefox, you will need to completely remove Firefox, download it again, and re-install it. 'Freecorder' in the Firefox Add-Ons list will not remove it or its associated ad ware. It will live on embedded in Firefox otherwise even though you removed it from your computer's software library.
I liked the idea of having this type of program on my computer so I downloaded the much better rated Free Studio software. I haven't actually used it but it is an honest program that does not seem to come with any unwanted junk that you didn't ask for and which you weren't pre-notifed that you would get!

The whole thing is adware and malware and my computer worked fine until I uninstalled, now the Internet is all buggy, my games won't play. This software totally messes up your operating system and I fully expect that they have left hidden malware on the PC. This is going to take a lot of time and effort for me to reinstall the whole system because I decided to try Freecorder.

If you put this on your computer and it gets destroyed, I don't feel bad for you, because I'm warning you.

"It works! As an alternative to SoundTap"

Unlike most softwares that record audio from your speakers, Freecorder is not only free, but does what it says. Without it, I had trouble recording my speakers due to my Logitech headset, which made it so Stereo Mix would not output anything. This software correctly recorded the audio, and even has an option to wait until there is no silence. And I don't have to even open the Control Panel or change any setting.
Most people say here they received Malware, but I suspect this is CNET's fault, I downloaded this from their website and got no malware.
Haven't tested the video recording because I didn't need it.Cons
Pretty well none, except a couple things. First, I wish I could record in WAV format. Second, I wish there was an option to turn off the wait until there is noise to record thingy (and also record silence). Other than that, perfect!
Note: This worked in Chrome, but for some reason it is glitchy in Firefox.Summary
This software is very worth downloading. It does exactly what it says, no malware, and the cons are very subtle.

The recorder worked great but all of a sudden I had loads of malware on my computer. After hours of figuring out how to get it off the recorder no longer works.
