This download utility is surprisingly attractive and full-featured for a freeware product, and its operation couldn't be more straightforward. To download a file, just click a link in your browser or drag it onto the program's tiny, semitransparent window.
In our comparison tests, Free Download Manager beat out Opera's download manager 85Kbps to 53Kbps. Its automation features also are very good. Like other managers, it can automatically dial a modem, start a download, or shut down the PC. Unlike many of them, it also can change the number of connections depending on download speed, or disconnect and shut down the computer if a file is unavailable.
If you want to boost your download speed for free, this utility is certainly worth a try.

Version: Free Download Manager 1.7
Pros: For once i have found a free download manager which works well and has NO spyware! A pretty interface and easy of use makes this a winner. It also takes little resources and my download speeds are increased sometimes.

If you are using Opera 8, you will download by Opera 8, then go to Transfer, copy From link, and paste it in Free Download Manager

"Clean Interface, Easy Customization, No Spyware"
Pros: Clean Interface: Compared to Download Accelerator PLus, the Free Download Manager (FDM) has a clean interface with only two default windows and a few buttons. It only take a few seconds to know the function of each of them.
Easy Customization: FDM allows you to customize the options easily. For novice users, it has a Wizard that adjust the settings according to connection. For computer saavy people, it allows to set up many aspects of file downloading, including extension naming and mirroring. It also respects all your settings (by not adding itself to the Startup registry and such).
No Spyware: I had run "Avast Antivirus", "Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta", and "Spybot Search and Destroy" and did not found a single entry from the FDM installation.
Cons: The only con I have found so far is that for dial-up modems, the acceleration (if any) is almost unnoticeable. However, this was MY case and that does NOT mean it will not work for you.
