CNET Editors' review
FotoMix is an intuitive photo-editing tool that allows users to create dual-layer images, making it possible to add, remove, and combine elements. Although it doesn't begin to compare to full-featured software like Photoshop, it's not a bad choice for non-professional users who need something that's quick and easy to use.
The program's interface is quite simple, with the five-step photo-editing process arranged with buttons across the top. Users simply select a background image, select a foreground image, do the necessary editing on each, tweak the settings on the final composition, and save the result. We, for example, inserted a giant eggplant into the water in front of a small fishing village. We can't say that it looked particularly realistic, but we can say that it is within the capabilities of FotoMix to combine elements from different images in a realistic way. We very rarely do any photo editing, but we found just about all of the program's features to be intuitive, and the built-in Help file is well-written and thorough. We think that FotoMix is a great choice for users who don't have much photo-editing experience but need a basic way to combine elements from different images or just perform basic edits and improvements on a single image; if nothing else, it's an easy way to crop, rotate, and add text to images.
FotoMix is free, but does include advertising. The program installs a desktop icon without asking and leaves a folder behind upon removal. We recommend this program to all users.

"It's a very good Photo editing application."
Version: FotoMix 9.0.7
Pros
The results look professional if you take the time to learn the application. The tutorials are very good. In my opinion, It's the best of the free lot of Photo editing apps available.
Cons
If you don't use it often, you really have to relearn it each time. It is involved, but only because there is so much you can do to get a great result. Not as involved as Photoshop, though, that's for sure.
Summary
If you are not looking for professional results, and are not very artistic,or even if you are, you'll be very happy with this program.

"THE TOOLBAR ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED !!!!"
Version: FotoMix 9.0.2
Pros
This has been one of my favorite programs for years , you can a lot of things here easier than on PhotoShop
Cons
None anymore , back in Dec.2011 I bought a new Desk Top and naturally FotoMix was one of the first programs I installed.
When I installed it it put a tool bar in without any option for me not to accept it, and I had a hell of a job getting rid of the toolbar , even after I uninstalled the program the tool bar remained, and it didn't show up in my add or remove programs or as any add on , I eventually had to do a system restore to rid myself of the damn thing.
But the problem has been fixed and this great program is safe to use again.Summary
I really missed using Foto Mix because even though I could do the same things with my Photo shop it took a lot more time and work .
So last night I did a little research to see if they changed their policy about tool bars .
Well I found a little piece the owner of FotoMix wrote in face book back in June I believe , he said basically " I am aware of the problem of the tool bar installing without your permission and I am working to correct that, I don't want you to have anything you do not want" .
I know there were tons of unhappy people when they added that tool bar that I think the owner may have had second thoughts and decided to make it optional ? that's just my opinion because I'm sure they lost a lot of fans back then.
Anyway I decided to try it this morning and to my surprise a box came up offering you several options about the toolbar and search engines and so on , BUT IT IS OPTIONAL , I click NO at the very top and the other 4 options removed the X automatically .
I'm very happy to report that the tool bar problem has been fixed , if you click NO it respects that which I might add 90% of the other companies that offer options install it anyway , but the owner of FotoMix is a man of his word and I am most grateful for that because I love this software.
I would also like to add that I downloaded it direct from the manufactures site , if that was the difference I do not know , so if you want their home site all you have to do is google it. -

"Invasive Program - Works But Requires A Lot Of Effort"
Version: FotoMix 8.7.4
Pros
- Works as claimed, and can give some great results if you put in the time
Cons
- Installation will also automatically install the Facemoods toolbar, so be warned
- This program is NOT intuitive, the 5 work screens use text and icons in an inconsistant manner. No doubt, the habitual user will find it ok, but the occassional user like me will have a steep learning curve each time you return to the program
- There is a marked absense of any AUTO editing, for example for colour adjustment and, in particular, removal of background coloursSummary
Overall, I was disappointed with this program. I am never very happy when there is no custom installation offered, and incensed when I must then uninstall the invasive Facemoods toolbar (thankfully installed as a separate element). The only offer available during installation is whether to install as the preferred toolbar, not to not take it in the first instance !!!!
The editing tools on offer are adequate for a merge program ie, colour adustment, sizing, cropping cloning and erasing, but I could not recommend this program just for general photo editing. However, these tools are fine when used to seamlessly merge 2 (or more) images. It'a a pity that both the erase and cloning tools are so limited, since both require extensive manipulation even just to eliminate the background to any image.
Overall, I found the process clumsy and too demanding in both time and effort to achieve the effect I was looking for. There are easier and better tools available, and I could not recommend this software.
