Publisher's description

From High-Logic :

Font Creator is a powerful font editor that puts font creation within the grasp of the average PC user, typographers, and graphic designers. The editor lets you easily select and modify the entire character set of any TrueType font and fonts based on OpenType font technology. The application's features include the ability to convert (scanned) images to outlines, thus enabling you to create fonts with your own signature, logo, and handwriting.

Version 5.0 contains new contour operations (union, intersection, exclusion, and knife) that greatly simplify and speed up the design process. Other new features include the ability to add selected characters or entire character sets with their mappings and complete composites.

Create invoices, track payments, and manage expenses.

    Version: Font Creator 5.0

"The best tool on the net for font creation."

by Trimmy on February 24, 2005

Pros: This font tool is perfect for beginners. A quick tap of the F1 key on startup gives you easy to follow step-by-step instructions on how to create the font you want to make. You can scan in handwritten images, or copy over from other art programs on the computer. You can create an image for every single character on the keyboard: Upper and lower case, numbers, characters, all foreign symbols and even the symbols you find on the numpad. It takes time, but if you're determined, you can save the font, then upload it to a font-hosting site for others to share.

Cons: Only two very minor flaws - you are not advised to save the font direct into Windows, but into your documents, then to move it. It's no hassle, but there's always some people who want minimum of fuss. Secondly, it may confuse first-time users to begin with, but it IS easy to get to gribs with after a while.

"An awsome program with a major setback"

by mr exuberant on April 26, 2006

Pros: It is a very good program for making fonts as you can use auto-spacing and auto-kerning to make the text look good and spaced out. You can import vector shapes from Macromedia Flash, making drawing fonts simple

Cons: I found it almost impossible to draw font in the program. This was easily solved, however, as I could import vector objects from Flash.

"Professional product at a budget price"

by Bhikkhu Pesala on February 8, 2005

Pros: The Home Edition is fine for new users, while the Pro edition offers more automation. Both offer full control over Truetype Fonts, and can import scanned images.

$99 is very little for such a powerful program. Fontographer is $349.00 and Fontlab is $549.00.

Font Creator will open huge Unicode fonts. In spite of its power, its system requirements are modest.

The Pro edition automates operations like making an oblique, bold, or light version of a font, inserting character sets with character mappings, completing composites, and combining contours.

The 30-day trial version is the Full Professional Edition. The responsiveness of the Program's author makes me confident that Font Creator will continue to improve with each new release.

Cons: Some users may miss Font Hinting, which is top of the "todo" list, but in my view it is not essential since greyscale smoothing is sufficient to improve onscreen display, and hinting is not used in printing on modern high resolution devices.

"Why waste your life with computer games when you could be creating great fonts?"

by DaveCrosby on February 8, 2005

Pros: I was fortunate enough to find Font Creator Version 4 last year and have been amazed at it?s capabilities and facile learning curve. The steady string of great improvements (mostly fueled by new user input) has been even more amazing.

I have just begun with version 5 which will automatically fill in all those composit characters for you. This has become a great professional quality tool!

If you are tired of wasting your life playing computer games and would like to use your future computer time doing something creative and lasting and fun instead, I heartily recommend this program!

Cons: It is hard to leave alone. When I should be doing other things, I find myself creating and experimenting with new font ideas using this program.
