FlashGet looks and feels like a download accelerator worth paying for, which makes it all the more appealing since it's free.
After installation, a small dark icon with three lightly-colored triangles will appear in the upper right corner of your monitor. Until you place it elsewhere, the FlashGet icon will live there permanently, and is always "on top" of whatever program you're using at the time. Simply drag the link you want to download onto the FlashGet icon, drop it and hit the Okay button; the file will start downloading automatically. We were able to download a 215MB file in less than 90 seconds with FlashGet, shaving more than a minute off the regular download time.
FlashGet supports more than bit torrent files, segmented downloading, and FTP recognition. It also has a Site Explorer feature that allows you to download multiple files from the same site in a Windows Explorer-style interface. Utilizing the instantly recognizable table, the Site Explorer cuts a lot of time out of navigating graphics-heavy sites, and it recognizes most file types.

Version: FlashGet 1.82.1002
Pros: It is possible to limit download speed for regular downloads, so if you are in (corporate) LAN you are able not to consume all the bandwidth
Cons: For all torrent files I tried to download with this I received error message. And torrent links were fine.

Version: FlashGet 1.82.1002
Pros: Download speed is quick. I utilized this download manager among with several download managers, this is the best. Orbit Downloader and Free Download Manager are great download managers but FlashGet surpassed these two download manager's speed. Great freeware. Highly recommended.

Version: FlashGet 1.82.1002
"Okay if you can't afford to pay for a download manager"
Pros: It's free. Clean looking interface.
Cons: There are much better (faster) download managers (that also cost money).
I started off comparing free options first, but ending up paying for, what I feel is the best-of-breed, Internet Download Manager ($24.95).
I tried to use FlashGet to download a huge DVD ISO file (about a GB) from Microsoft. FlashGet was moving very slowly compared to IDM.

Version: FlashGet 1.82.1002
"an excellent download manager / accelerator"
Pros: if any body asks me which download accelerator i would reccomend i always answer flashget (with the wonderful flashgot firefox extension). it's fast, powerful, full of features, and best of all free!
flashget recently added bittorrent support which really impressed me. it's not as fancy as other bittorrent clients, but if you have a smalll uploading stream then you could use flashget to leech other bittorrent clients without uploading. i'm not saying this is a good thing, but for people with strict upload limit this is the best thing.
Cons: none
