FlashGet looks and feels like a download accelerator worth paying for, which makes it all the more appealing since it's free.
After installation, a small dark icon with three lightly-colored triangles will appear in the upper right corner of your monitor. Until you place it elsewhere, the FlashGet icon will live there permanently, and is always "on top" of whatever program you're using at the time. Simply drag the link you want to download onto the FlashGet icon, drop it and hit the Okay button; the file will start downloading automatically. We were able to download a 215MB file in less than 90 seconds with FlashGet, shaving more than a minute off the regular download time.
FlashGet supports more than bit torrent files, segmented downloading, and FTP recognition. It also has a Site Explorer feature that allows you to download multiple files from the same site in a Windows Explorer-style interface. Utilizing the instantly recognizable table, the Site Explorer cuts a lot of time out of navigating graphics-heavy sites, and it recognizes most file types.
Be warned, though: some malware detection programs might identify the Internet Explorer plug-in as spyware, although we didn't encounter any problems with it. Other than this hitch, FlashGet is good to be got.

Version: FlashGet 1.8.1
"Brilliant! By far the best for downloading BitTorrent."
Pros: I spent a very long time checking out most of the software available for downloading BitTorrent files. I had settled on BitComet - but had real problems with the speed that I was getting using this. But at least it was doing SOMETHING I thought. I particularly liked the preview facility available with BitComet. But you had to have quite a bit downloaded before this was available. Then by chance I came across FlashGet and was amazed at the speeds that I was getting when downloading using this piece of software. Some files which took me many hours to download with BitComet (a whole day in one instance spent watching a file downloading on to my computer) - I downloaded using FlashGet in under an hour.
Approx 600 mb in just over 30 mins using FlashGet instead of 10 hours or so using BitComet. This may be due to my understanding a little bit more about the whole subject and knowing a bit more about how to configure my router, etc. Also the time of day that I download the BitTorrent file. But all in all I am very impressed with Flashget.

Version: FlashGet 1.8.1
Pros: Speeds up downloads. Lets downloads resume after being off line. Version 1.73 was very stable - download from author's web site.
Cons: Version 1.81 crashes often, especially when downloading more than one file at a time (using dialup - maybe this is not a problem with higher speed connection?). Author's web site calls 1.73 stable and warns of crashes with newer versions.
