FlashGet is specifically designed to address two of the biggest problems when downloading files: speed and management of downloaded files. If you've ever waited forever for your files to download from a slow connection or been cut off midway through a download--or you just can't keep track of your ever-growing downloads--FlashGet is for you. It can split downloaded files into sections, downloading each section simultaneously, for an increase in downloading speeds from 100 percent to 500 percent. This, coupled with FlashGet's powerful and easy-to-use management features, helps you take control of your downloads like never before.

Version 1.65 supports HTTP, FTP, SHTTP, MMS, MMST, and RTSP protocols.

FlashGet looks and feels like a download accelerator worth paying for, which makes it all the more appealing since it's free.

After installation, a small dark icon with three lightly-colored triangles will appear in the upper right corner of your monitor. Until you place it elsewhere, the FlashGet icon will live there permanently, and is always "on top" of whatever program you're using at the time. Simply drag the link you want to download onto the FlashGet icon, drop it and hit the Okay button; the file will start downloading automatically. We were able to download a 215MB file in less than 90 seconds with FlashGet, shaving more than a minute off the regular download time.

FlashGet supports more than bit torrent files, segmented downloading, and FTP recognition. It also has a Site Explorer feature that allows you to download multiple files from the same site in a Windows Explorer-style interface. Utilizing the instantly recognizable table, the Site Explorer cuts a lot of time out of navigating graphics-heavy sites, and it recognizes most file types.

Be warned, though: some malware detection programs might identify the Internet Explorer plug-in as spyware, although we didn't encounter any problems with it. Other than this hitch, FlashGet is good to be got.

  "A fast download manager BUT with SPYWARE!"

  Pros: This downloads files very fast, uses little resources and is easy to use

  Cons: However! It is bundled with spyware which is BAD. Another minus is teh fact that there are ADs included with the software TERRIBLE!

  "On of the best downloader..."

  Pros: Very effective download manager with easy-to-use UI and multilanguage support. I'm using it for 3 years now and I'm very satisfied. Recommend it to all.

  Pros: Flashget is amazingly fast. Flashget can split the file you are downloading into 10 parts and downloads all 10 of them simultaneously.

  Cons: It comes with adware. However, the adware can be removed quickly with an ad-aware or spybot scan.

  Pros: its speed is excellent... . Interface is good and its pretty easy to use. Works well with Firefox... so all thumbs up.

  Cons: though it comes with adware, but can b removed very easily

  "Really Efficient if you got dialup.Excellent for broadband"

  Pros: It downloads more efficiently then IE's downloader and is slightly faster.It can do multiple downloads at a time.

  Cons: It comes with ad-aware/spyware but can be easily removed with a spyware program like Ad-Aware.It is add supported. I still would recommend a better free software called LeechGet 1.1 that is spyware/adware free.Also sometimes screws up the download by having errors so you can't continue it or it downloads it but it's corrupted.
