First Impression provides a simple way to view your photo collection. The program's simplicity helps it to not get caught up in the trappings many other viewers do.
The program's interface was delightfully simple, consisting of a small, intuitive menu of commands. Its ease of navigation was fortunate since the program lacked a Help file. When we opened our photo, the layout caught us slightly off guard, as most other viewers frame the photo within the program, but here a blown-up shot took up the screen with nothing surrounding it, exposing our desktop. We simply right-clicked the image for our menu. The options were very standard (rotate, flip, zoom) and, surprisingly, there was not much else. Many similar programs provide filters, masks, or even file converters to customize the shot, which usually result in clunky programs. First Impression smartly stuck with a single functionality and we appreciated it. One fun addition was its simple hot-keys feature, which allowed us to cycle through a folder's photos with our keyboard. While the program wasn't very innovative, it did its one job very well and we appreciated that it didn't cram anything unnecessary into the mix.
First Impression is a freeware program. We recommend it.

Lightweight, no extras, nothing necessary.
Cons
I have a standard laptop keyboard (no keypad), and I can't use the "+" key to zoom in. Instead, I have to click through 2 menus (3 clicks) just to zoom in once. So, if I have a picture I want to zoom in a lot, it literally takes a full minute to do so. This needs to be fixed.

Just the thing for skimming through a folder full of images. Tip: since there are no visible buttons to click, management is in the right-click menu. Right-click anywhere inside an image.

Dont have slideshow and would like the possibility that the photo would use the whole screen hiding everything else (including the taskbar)
