Although it won't win any design accolades, this simple utility effectively monitors changes in a specific folder. File Audit's plain yet comprehensible interface makes it easy to input a target folder for monitoring. The program logs many attribute changes in specified folders. File Audit tracks write times, name changes, and attribute modifications to files and folders. A handy file-filtering option simplifies tracking specific files. Similar programs in the genre neglect subfolders, but we were happy to see the feature prominent in File Audit. This well-written program barely uses memory, or other system resources, while monitoring numerous files. System administrators looking for a free and efficient file-monitoring tool will appreciate this basic program.Publisher's description
From Adaptive Technology :File Audit is a tool that monitors changes to directories and logs it to a log file. Changes that can be monitored include File/Folder Attributes, File/Folder Last Write Time, File name, Folder name, File/Folder Security Attributes.

Version: File Audit 1
Pros: I have been looking for a product like this for ever. I was thrilled when I found it but I'm a little bit disapointed
Cons: It monitors only one folder and all it's subfolders.
It would benefit from having the option to flag multiple folders for monitoring.
Crashes in buffer overflow when monitoring c:\documents & settings\user\
I have to set it up that way in order to monitor what's happening to my desktop.
It really needs to have the ability to monitor more than one folder at a time (at the very least, the desktop and another folder).
Thank you for integrating this in your next version.
