Fences is an app that allows you to organize your desktop icons into categories to un-clutter your workspace. The latest version, Fences 2.0, adds new features to help you get and stay organized even faster.
The interface of the newer version is much like before. The fences look the same - they're clean and blend well, and you can adjust the transparency and color to suit your needs. You'll also still be able to easily sort your files and program icons into multiple fences on your desktop. One of our favorite features, Auto-Organizer, also lets you choose which files will automatically go into the fence you specify--this is handy if you frequently add new files to your computer.
Fences 2.0 also comes with a couple new features, Folder Portals and Desktop Pages. Folder Portals lets you create a fence from any folder and organize the contents on your desktop for quick access. Desktop Pages lets you set up multiple screens, each with their own set of fences, and navigate between them just by clicking and dragging. While we found it fairly easy to set up and use the fences, we liked the user guidance and tutorials so you can make sure you're using Fences to its fullest potential.
Users who are overwhelmed by desktop clutter will like the flexibility of Fences 2.0. The installation is easy and quick and you can try the product free for 30 days to see if it's right for you.

I uninstalled the old version and installed the newest version but still have the same problem. It's clashing with some other program on my computer -

I regularly boot up my computer and all the fences are empty and all the icons are outside the fences.

A great program to help you get rid of the clutter on your desktop. It allows you to put your icons in separate boxes and keeps it that way no matter what.
Cons
This program made my Windows 7 freeze up and crash. Do not use this if you use Windows 7, I am not sure if its the same on Vista, but I am sure that as soon as I removed this program from my Windows 7 PC, my PC stopped freezing and crashing.

Great program if you are not on windows 7! Otherwise stay far away!

Extremely useful. My desktop was full of icons didn't had space left for even one more icon. So I decided to move all the icons to folder but then I found this wonderful piece of software. Now my desktop looks so much better & neat.

Didn't find one till now.

I think Microsoft should bundle it with their Windows 7 as this is really nice Desktop organizing software.

The only problem that I have with this software is you can't find out the process that runs it as it doesn't show up in Task Manager...
Summary
It's been keeping my mind-bogglingly cluttered desktop tidy for nearly a year now. Of course the best option is keeping your desktop clean in the first place but this saves me the time and keeps my icons organized to boot.

If you are a person that is willing to sacrifice performance for looks then go ahead and get it. If you prefer speed over looks dont even think about it. If you want speed and looks then look else ware EX. rocketdock, visual styles, moding.
