Reviewed by: CNET Staff

Even though we must voice concern about its resource-hogging ways, this bizarrely named application makes a useful addition to your desktop. With the quick press of a hot key, Entbloess allows you to see a full-screen preview of every open window on your computer. Mousing over each window brings up descriptive text, and clicking any screenshot brings you directly to that program, Web page, or document. Then, you can go back to working like normal until you access Entbloess again. Clicking the system-tray icon lets you perform a decent amount of customization tweaks. For example, you can change the background color of the full-screen view, tweak the appearance of the text, determine whether the application automatically launches on start-up, and enable slide or fade effects. Although we think the app's 100-use trial is generous enough, we also think it takes a pretty big toll on your system, occupying anywhere between 14MB and 30MB of memory when in idle mode. Nevertheless, multitaskers will appreciate Entbloess's easy operation and intuitive layout.

Publisher's description

From Nipaco :

Entbloess allows you to see live previews of all your open windows in a manner similar to Apple Expose. It also supports mouse interaction, complete customization, and animation. It can be executed via a single keystroke or mouse hot spot and supports operating by either mouse or keyboard. Entbloess allows you to see all windows, or only windows from the current application depending on which key you press (or which hot spot you use).

Manage your small business finances.

"Make Windows feel more like Mac with EntBloess!"

by CableguyTK on January 22, 2006

Pros: Very cool feature only seen in Mac now available for Windows through this program.

    Very fast.

It is exactly the same as TopDesk, only $2 cheaper.

    Looks great on Windows.

    Excellent idea.

Cons: Not free. But its cheap.

Can act rather slow on older computers.

"Nice if multiple monitors were supported"

by michaelsoft on November 27, 2005

Pros: Moderately fast (at least as best as can be expected from Windows not being optimised for this sort of thing) and easy to use.

Plenty of keyboard shortcuts to choose from.

Lots of settings to customize to anyone's liking

Cons: The one thing preventing me from buying this is the fact that it does not take multiple monitors into account. i.e. the windows in other monitors just kept refreshing over and over, and in addition were visible in the primary monitor's overview mode. A separate overview for each monitor would be more helpful I think.

One other change I would make is to the titling. The text is not visible unless an outline is applied (which is the default) but it looks very cheesy. A slightly blurred shadow would keep it visible and make it look a little more professional.

I would also have enjoyed an option to not have a keyboard shortcut for things (show desktop is WinKey+Spacebar, even though WinKey+D already exists...). The only way to "disable" the keyboard shortcuts is by making it so obscure you'll never use it (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+WinKey+0 or something)

    "To slow"

by linders on August 18, 2005

    Pros: Image quality is good

Cons: Horroble performance, mouse is choppy in exposed mode, and when I mouse over a window it nearly stalls. Mind you this is on a AMD64 3400+, 1 Gig ram, ATI 9700 Pro.

The animation doesn't begin from the start - making a little jump, is a little confusing for the eye

    "Doesn't Work"

by surferjr on June 18, 2005

Pros: Great idea if it would work, since it doesn't anything other than if you press F11 the windows maximize and minimize.

Cons: This program states that if you press F9 it will automatically arrange and size, and space your open windows on the desktop. When I pressed F9 all I got was a beeping sound, none of the other function keys except F11 works. ALso trying to use the mouse to have it show all applications all I get is a beep. You could say that microsoft's os is to blame, ? giving them the benefit of a doubt.

    "Best window switcher ever!"

by mikedashg on April 21, 2005

Pros: Better then Expose! (in the customizability)

    - HUGE amount of customizable settings

    - Ability to Disable/Enable the program

    - Quick startup

    - Ability to clear resources

    - Dynamic help window

    - AND ability to turn off the dynamic help window.

    - Ability to turn off/on system tray icon

    - Ability to turn off/on program start on windows startup

    - Ability to customize the "preview" options, gives you the ability to customize if it captures windows that it already has captured, capture all windows all the time, or none at all, or only ones that have changed size. This helps balance performance with functionality for all types of computer speeds.

    - Ability to update foreground window, or at intervals

    - Enable live previews or not

    - Ability to adjust quality of captures

    - Ability to turn off/on regions into account

    - Ability to change screen captures method, "print window" method, or screen whenever possible.

    - Change/Add background image, use desktop image, no image, OR background color

    - Adjust spacing

    - Ability to turn off animation, slide animation, fade animation, OR both slide/fade

    - Ability to change font of title, shadow, outline, font color, etc.

    - Ability to turn off/on hot keys and corners

    - Customize minimized windows in FOUR different options: show caption bar only (MY personal favorite)

restore all, restore all AND THEN minimize, OR don't show at all

    - 8 HOT spot locations! All corners AND in between corners.

    - Hotspot delay control (Instant -> Delayed) to help with accidental activation

    - Very smooth and and fast desktop hot key/corner

Cons: SOMETIMES I was able to control the program once all windows were shown. Which I thought was REALLY neat!! For example, I could tab between fields in certain programs, or go to next track in iTunes, or arrow down in my messenger buddy list. However sometimes the tab and arrow keys would tab or arrow through highlighting the captured windows. Not sure if this is a pro or con because it seamed very inconsistent. I thought it was really neat to be able to control the programs inside their screen captures. However I could only do it sometimes, and when I could, I could not tab or arrow between windows, which ALSO was a nice feature. Hmm! Couldn't decide if it was a pro or con, because it was not consistent. Both features were nice. I just wish it would do both at the same time, and all the time.

I honestly could not find anything wrong with this! It's a great mimic of Expose. That said, one more con... It's not Expose! But it sure does a good job of it.
