This freeware text editor won't replace your word processor, but you'll dump Notepad immediately.
Off the bat, EditPad Lite impressed us with install options according to user preferences. The tabbed interface couldn't be easier to learn or use. We wished, however, that the Help file was for this version alone. Seeing the labeled Pro features will merely confuse some users. Usage is splendid, as we quickly dived into the program to edit basic text files.
This isn't a word processor, but includes features to make text entry easier. You can easily change the display font, screen colors, text encoding, tab placement and many other advanced user features. Editing HTML or program code files is simplified by a variety of tools for text encoding, line numbering, and search-and-replace options.
EditPad Lite shines when users must work on multiple files concurrently. Tabbing and split-screen options make the files easy to see, while the search-and-replace function can work across all open files. This freeware won't save in Rich Text Format, display commands in color, or offer a spell-checker, however.
Novices will quickly discover the extra features over Notepad, and advanced users will find EditPad needs few system resources while featuring multiple programming-related functions.

"This is an awesomely handy program!"
Pros: Search and replace feature is super -- with "case sensitive", "whole words only", "loop automatically", "all files", "selection only" AND History options!
Ability to open other notes in tabs.
Ability to convert case to upper, lower, or initial caps.
Camps out in the System Tray -- or NOT, if you don't want it to.
Cons: It's green.
Actually, I don't mind that; I just can't think of anything I don't like about it.

Pros: It's difficult to rate notepads. None have extended features unless you are crazy enough to try HTML editing rather than use Webuilder. I ran about 10 notepads, including Ted, one I became frustrated with. EditPad has the features of I need.
Cons: None. It's just a notepad for crying out loud.
Summary: Ok, the menu is easy to use. Simple. And the case changing feature is simple. I will use this frequently.
