Google Earth gives every computer user their own personal spy satellite, but that's just a start. Earthsim provides similar functions, creating a 3D model of the earth from satellite images, and turning it into a screensaver or a stand-alone browser. Users can fly over the planet or zoom in for high-resolution images, and the software includes advanced features such as atmosphere modeling and real-time sun position. However, a long installation period and tight usage restrictions on the trial version diminish Earthsim's appeal somewhat. The evaluation version limits how far a user can zoom in, and advanced features such as borders, cities, or clouds come only with a paid version. Once a user has subscribed, the software automatically updates itself with new content and live satellite data every six weeks. For geography buffs--or would-be CIA analysts--Earthsim could provide hours of entertainment.Publisher's description
From Earthsim :Earthsim is one of the few 3D screensavers and browsers aimed at high-end PCs, and features some of the most detailed and best-presented space views modelled so far on a home PC. This shareware screensaver version shows stunning up-close flybys of the Earth and Moon complete with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, and includes a sample 3D documentary about the Andes mountain range. The simulation has realistic atmosphere modeling, real-time sun position, and high-resolution NASA images of Earth, with accurate orbits, orientations, and star field. Pros: Looks pretty when it works. The operative phrase is "when it works."
Cons: The service is very unreliable. I keep having to root around in my system to remove a cache file Earthsim routinely corrupts. After months of jacking with this I thought they'd fix it. No. If there is such a category as Eurotrash software, Earthsim is right at the top.

Pros: I like the graphics when it actually works.
Cons: I paid a year subscription but after a day or two it goes offline. I have yet to receive a response about this "issue".

Pros: The images and documentaries are graphically well done and would provide some good educational value.
Cons: As others have noted, the screensaver function does nasty things with my computer. Lockups etc.
I purchased the software and can only get it to recognize my logon for a day or two. After that it refuses to go online and nags me to go out and purchase the software. Uninstalling and reinstalling may get it to work again a couple of times, but not for very long.
This product is clearly not ready for sale. It has potential and could become something worth buying. And as others have also noted, forget about getting a refund. They do not respond to ANY queries. Enjoy the free download if you want, but don't break out your pocketbook on this one.
