This freeware automatically opens and shuts the door of your CD-ROM drive with a single click of your mouse button, but it only works on one drive.
Doorkeeper offers a very small interface that contains two buttons for opening and closing your CD-ROM drive. The program also appears as a tray icon; right-clicking it opens up a context menu that includes the program settings and the ability to open and close the CD-ROM drive. From the program settings, users can perform a number of tweaks, like changing the skins of the interface, making the program transparent, and letting it stay on top of other program windows. You'll also find an AutoClose feature, which closes your CD-ROM drive after a user-specified number of seconds.
The included help file is not written in English, though the program is very easy to use. Its biggest drawback: if you have more than one CD-ROM drive, the program will recognize each one, but will only open one user-specified drive. Despite that annoyance, any user who struggles to remember to close the CD-ROM drive will like what this freeware offers.

Version: Doorkeeper 1.4
Pros: Doorkeeper provides on-screen buttons to open and close the CD drive door. It works very well. It does not get in the way on the screen, but is there when needed.
Cons: To get to a second drive, doorkeeper requires that a key be held down while the buttons are selected. It would be nice to have 2 buttons for each of the drives so that this wouldn't be necessary.

Version: Doorkeeper 1.4
"Does what it says. Could do it better though."
Pros: It opens and closes the drive door, as advertised. Very small application, no overheard to hog resources. Very small- simple interface is just 3 buttons: Open/Close/Settings. Can even change the skins.
Cons: Upon first use: When you minimize the app, it DISSAPPEARS. It does NOT show in the system tray. Hotkeys still worked. Using Task Manager, I killed the process. When I restarted the app, it showed in the system tray.
Summary: It does what it says and is exactly what I needed. My computer sits low to the ground, and my front-panel USB is above the CD drive. This means I have cables that hang down in front of the drive: headphones, usb to external HDD, etc. When i'm ga... read more >>
