Version: Devil Whiskey demo 2.0
Summary: For anyone who enjoys D&D, RPG-style games, Devil Whiskey is great--a wonderful blend of character-building, monster-whuppin' combat, occasional puzzle-solving, & an intriguing story-line! It's original, yet still follows in the tradition of the Wiz... read more >>

Version: Devil Whiskey demo 2.0
"Great potential - too much to figure out"
Pros: Lots of stats, races, classes to manipulate. Old style RPG. Could create many characters to leave at the adventurer's hall, than form and re-form your party of up to 8 from among them.
Cons: I don't expect to have to read through an 100 page manual to play a demo. No in-game map that I could find. Some basic spells and battle skills need more explaination than provided in-game. Couldn't manage to equip items during battle, though it was provided as an option. Couldn't figure out why some characters of appropriate class (warrior, for instance) were only given the option to defend themselves rather than attack with an equipped weapon. Battle description text scrolled by too fast to read. Night (and complete darkness) went on forever unless I shelled out 2000 gp for a room, but then daylight only lasted a few minutes. Many of these complaints could be resolved by wading through the manual, but if I haven't comitted to buy, why would I commit that amount of time? Playability is usually common across the RPG genre. That isn't so much the case here. An in-game help file, hot keys, or pop-ups would make a world of difference, as opposed to wading through a pdf.

Version: Devil Whiskey demo 2.0
Summary: the storyline sucks, the game crashes every 15 minutes or so on my Windows XP machine, half the command keys don't work, it takes nearly five commands to do simple tasks -- awful game!

"Great Bard's Tale - type game"
Summary: Very impressive, fun, playable game. Wasn't too hard, but hard enough to keep it fun and interesting. I'd definitely recommend.

"Better quality than Bard's Tale AND less expensive."
Summary: If you're a fan of CRPGs like the classic Bard's Tale, then this will be the best $25 US you spend this year.
The sounds are better, the graphics are better, and the gameplay is better than the original Bard's Tale games.
