DesktopX allows users to add true objects to their Windows desktops. Through the use of these objects, users can create completely unique-looking desktop environments for every imaginable use. Power users can use DesktopX to create the ultimate desktop for productivity, or parents can use DesktopX to create a simplified desktop for their children. Corporations can use DesktopX to create a secure and focused desktop for their users. Users can create their own objects or themes or download them from the Internet.

DesktopX is fairly easy to use, and most objects require no programming whatsoever. DesktopX can change the Windows desktop as much or as little as the user desires. DesktopX objects can live side-by-side with icons on the standard Windows desktop. Therefore, you could have a DesktopX clock, a calendar, an MP3 player, or a cool animated object sitting on your desktop--or use it as animated wallpaper. DesktopX can also be used to change the desktop to resemble another OS (Mac, Linux, Amiga, OS/2, and so on), or even something never seen before. DesktopX allows both novice users and professional developers to transform the Windows desktop into whatever they'd like. Many sample objects and themes are included and thousands are available at WinCustomize.com.

Version 1.2 incorporates a new animation engine that is much faster than previous versions at providing animation.

Everybody who uses a computer customizes his or her desktop to some degree. With DesktopX you can mold your work space any way you like. Chock-full of themes, icon manipulators, and simple programs, DesktopX gives you an unlimited number of choices to freak out your desktop.

The most unique feature of DesktopX is its ability to create and run simple programs, called objects, on your desktop. The default installation includes a variety of objects, such as a CNN Headline News ticker, an analog clock, and a simple MP3 player. You can easily download more objects. Interesting icon tweaks include expansion to just smaller than giant, as well as a feature that makes icons grow when you mouse over them. We like the themes, which provide a unique collection of objects, background images, and other tweaks that can switch your style in one swoop. All told, DesktopX offers extensive tools for redesigning your desktop.
