CNET Editors' review
True to its name, this ultrasimple executable guides you in renaming four common desktop icons, although the functionality is already available for all but one. Desktop Renamer has a straightforward interface with boxes for you to insert new names for the Recycle Bin, My Computer, My Documents, and My Network Places icons. Though the name changes indeed took effect during testing, we could just as quickly have selected Rename from the right-click menus of each folder except Recycle Bin. It can restore the original names of renamed folders, which we appreciate. Although this freeware is easy to use, we can't recommend you place it high on your must-have list because most of the functionality already exists within Windows.Publisher's Description

"Pointless"
Version: Desktop Renamer 1
Pros
There's a much less CPU hogging way to rename your recycle bin. Just open a blank .txt file and inside it copy this information:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\ShellFolder]
"Attributes"=hex:50,01,00,20
"CallForAttributes"=dword:00000000
Name the file whatever you like, followed by .reg and save it. (example: Rename Recycle Bin.reg) then double click it. Windows will ask you if you want to add this file to your registry. Click yes. Now you can delete the file you just made. Now right click your Recycle Bin icon on your desktop and you'll have the "rename" option in the context menu. Please note that this works on Windows XP Service Pack 2. I don't know if this'll work on other versions of Windows or not.
