Locked features make it difficult to evaluate this undistinguished Registry utility. Desktop Maestro's simple multitabbed interface uses tooltips and short instructions to guide users. Novices will appreciate the basic text, but experienced users may wish for functions that require fewer steps.

Desktop Maestro's general operation mirrors most programs in the genre. Users start a complete system scan with a single click. The application offers users the opportunity to create a custom scan of fewer Registry sections, but then makes them take two extra steps to start it. As is far too common in this gene, removing found problems is disabled for many items. This application goes further by making it difficult to clean at all. While all found problem entries are listed, it's a bother to deselect all, select only a particular section, or sort all entries into a single list.

An option to restore a Registry backup is not paired with an easy method to create a backup. A tool to monitor changes in the Registry offers no ability to monitor only select hives.

Desktop Maestro's interface is clean, well-ordered, and responsive. Unfortunately, that's all we liked about this utility. There are far too many other apps in this genre that outperform this program's scanning, cleaning, and monitoring functions.

  "Best and Easy the Desktop Maestrot!!"

  Pros: Hi! Don't tell me this please, I'm worked and know the Desktop Maestro in one PC with Vista Windows OS and other with windows XP with the Registry Mechanic and the Privacy Guardian, software complementary at the Registry Mechanic!!

  Cons: Really the program is good, but is hard to configure the many options and combination of the two software per each and I'm recommend the Privacy Guardian if you have the Registry Mechanic!!! But best, the Desktop Mechanic!

  Pros: Easy to use. Easy to repair errors. Keeps my computer tweaked to optimal.

  Cons: Have to buy it. Wish Microsoft had a truly free registry cleaner.

  Summary: Not sure why that other reviewer had so much trouble. I have no complaints regarding the performance of this product. Would give it a 5 star rating, but unsure what the difference between Excellent and Spectacular is. All I know is that it works ... read more >>
