For all the wonderful things that OS X does, flipping through folders while opening and saving documents remains a hassle. This award-winning app attaches a toolbar to the side of all your Open and Save dialogs, providing quick access to multiple folders and commands. You can jump to favorite and recently used folders, or even manage files and folders right from the dialog (so you don't need to go to the Finder for simple tasks such as renaming and deleting). Default Folder also lets you assign hot keys and work with recent items right from the Dock. We're not crazy about the price, but this kind of smart, time-saving functionality is difficult to pass up.
By enhancing the Open and Save dialog boxes on your Mac, Default Folder makes managing your files almost automatic. Default Folder adds a column of pop-up menu buttons to all Open and Save dialogs. You just click on the buttons to go to your favorite and recently used folders, manage the folders and files shown in the list, and make changes to your settings.
Default Folder X 2.0.4 speeds up access to iDisk and other slow file servers; makes open and save dialogs more responsive; and improves overall speed and stability.
Pros: I have used this utility for years over many versions of it, and of MAC OSs, and it has become my main "can't do without" small App. The complaint about the price is, I think, not valid, especially considering the convenience and time savings that it provides. Furthermore, I have had many updates over the years, and they were all FREE with the one exception of the change over to to OS X. I have also had any tech questions answered well and quickly, and again FREE. Match that against the costs and generally poor quality of "support" by the majority of software makers and the cost of Default Folder is negligable. One of the truly great Apps.
