It's free and designed to convert your audio and video files from one format to another, but this enormous program installs more than you ask for. The installation process just seems to go on and on, installing one program after another, even trying to slip in a free trial for another service. Skipping the free trial, we still ended up with four programs installed.
It's easy to use once you get past the installation, we'll give the program that. Right-click on an audio or video file and choose the format you want to convert the file to. It includes most of the standard file formats for both media types, allowing you the option of converting MP3s to WAV or WMA file formats and video files to AVI, OGM, MKV. There are just a few settings so you can change the outputs bitrate or video width. When we tested an MP3 file, converting it to a WAV format, it took several minutes to process and we ended up with a corrupted file that wouldn't work. Trying to use the option to convert multiple files at once caused numerous run-time errors. Things went from bad to worse when we tried the video conversion process. Regardless of which format we chose, DMSI didn't produce a single output file.
Don't get your hopes up with this faulty file-conversion program. You won't have to shell out any money, but you probably won't get any of your files converted, either.
