Part community and mostly file sharing, DC occupies an unusual niche in the P2P game. Unlike torrents, which are direct peer connections, or centralized networks like LimeWire, DC manages connections to hubs. Most hubs are built around an interest, such as science fiction or movies. From there, you can chat and share files with other peers who are connected to the same hub.
However, many hubs place restrictions on connections to ensure that users are devoting their attention to the hub. The number of hubs you can connect to depends on how many Upload share slots you give, and you rarely can connect to more than four or five hubs without violating the rules of at least one of them. That results in your connection to that hub being lost. Also, many hubs have a minimum share requirement, often 1GB or 5GB.
Connecting is rather simple. Once you install the program, you create a nickname, set your share directory, and the number of upload slots you'd like to give. There's a built-in public hub directory list to help users find communities they're interested in, which is searchable by keyword. Commands, such as to register your nickname with the hub so nobody else can use it, are entered into the main chat window.
There are a lot of mouse-over labels to help you understand what's going on, and since many of the communities are relatively small, people tend to be friendly in offering guidance. Hubs often employ a Help command to assist users in the rules and how-tos. Great for sharing files and chatting, DC has carved out a small but well-connected niche, and you can find most files you're looking for--as long as you're in the right hub.

Version: DC++ 0.699
"Pathetic! Avoid it like the plague!"
Pros: Nothing. It should have been resigned to the dustbin years ago. If I could I would have given it half a star!!!
Cons: Where to I begin to tell you about this incompetent peer to peer? I was fascinated by it because it seemed something special. DC++ sounds like something out of the I-Robot movie but things all turned sour when I downloaded it!
On the first occasion I gave up due to the difficulty of configuration and I sat in silent frustration wondering what is was all about. I actually ended up deleting it and vowing before God never to return. Some weeks later I was on a website that gave the direct instructions for configuration all presented in a visual format. With my new found knowledge I broke my vows and downloaded DC++ again and managed to configure it. The user is presented with different hubs to connect to to find the files they want. The only problem was at a extremely low speed and nothing like it's advocates claim. That's the first strike against it. There's more....
Before you can download from a hub you need to have a certain amount of data to download on some of them. Some of the download sites required 5MB, 10MB etc. What the idiots who created DC++ did not realise is that how do you share files if you cannot get onto a download site to get them in the first place - a chicken and egg scenario! The other bad point is that the amount of available files is poor. However, this is obviously due to the fact if you have insufficient files to share you cannot get onto the good sites in the first place!
DC++ is a program designed by computer geeks for computer geeks. It has nothing to compete with such excellent peer to peers such as Ares Galaxy, bitTorrent, Morpheus etc. Not only do you get the files you want with the later mentioned you save yourself a lot of heartache by not having to configure them with the brain of a mad scientist. DC++ is bizarre, irrational and stupid. Avoid this thing like the plague!

Version: DC++ 0.699
Pros: Easy to use. Has a great built in data base of your downloads incoming, outgoing and waiting to be downloaded.
Cons: It's a little bit slower than other similar programs. Also PC amateurs will find this very difficult to set up.

Version: DC++ 0.699
"Solution for creating magnet registry key"
Pros: If you have Windows Vista, right-click on the DC++ icon and click on 'Run as Administrator' then click ok. DC++ will open up and there shouldn't be no error.
If you don't want to always click on 'Run as Administrator'. Right-click the DC++ shortcut, go to 'Properties' and in one of the tabs there will be a checkbox for 'Run as administrator' or something along those lines. This is what I did after looking for the solution on the internet and this worked for me.

Version: DC++ 0.699
Pros: For a start, this is not for beginners. Definitely worth learning though.
Out of all DC++ the 0.699 is the best. fewer problems then the latest versions that are out.
Though there are limits to how much hubs you can connect to, don't be afraid to connect to as many as you want. I have 50 going at any one time.
I have managed to get all songs that I have been looking for (over12000), be it songs from the days of old and present.
For free software really good:o)
Cons: Too much issues with the newer versions. Stay clear. Newer doesn't mean better. Error loading programmes, constant flashing of download hub tabs, "DC++ error message" Close DC++
