"A great utility but don't download from CNet!"

February 09, 2012  |  By Philip_Goddard

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Displays CPU core temperatures and other data in a really efficient and useful manner. I have it set to display the highest core temperature in my notification area (system tray) as I have dual-core CPU, and I really like it.

Cons

No cons relating to Core Temp. The problem is the MALWARE that CNet uses to download / install Core Temp. It uses a range of nasty ploys to trick even the most clear-headed and determined avoider of unwanted software into having a bunch of crapware installed. Not all CNet downloads are this bad, but this one goes beyond all bounds of decency in its determination to install unwanted software regardless of the person's clear wish not to get loaded with such junk.

Summary

Core Temp is a great little program, and totally benign. You just need to download it from the developer's website, NOT from CNet. The installation package from the former doesn't even mention, let alone try to get you to install, anything other than Core Temp.

"This utility is awesome,no guessing about system health"

January 28, 2012  |  By scarv48

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Capable of monitoring temp of both cores. Option of monitoring RAM also. Works with a real sweet 3rd party desktop gadget. Everything works flawlessly.

Cons

Not extremely intuitive and lacks documentation to make up for it. Learning curve is a bit steeper than is should be

Summary

I am now spoiled and could not live without this utility. I know when to close down some work, vent my laptop, or to reboot for safety.

"Precise monitor for your CPU temperature"

January 20, 2012  |  By CR_V1

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

More precise than other similar tools and displays more details. Small, doesn't take up space and quick launch of the application are a big plus.

Cons

One needs to be careful what they choose to be installed during setup. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware detects the startup of the installation as virus. One big flaw is that after the installation of the program, even when it's not running it causes some issues for Chrome-pages fail to load or display "Oops! Something went wrong!" error, and some plugins, mostly Flash, tend to hiccup and crash every now and then. It stopped as soon as I uninstalled Coretemp so I suspect it's the main culprit of this problem.

Summary

I would suggest this tool to everyone-if the ones who made this tool would ditch all the unnecessary junk that comes with it-you're left little choice whether or not to install it. Very, very disappointed.

"Simple and does the job."

January 11, 2012  |  By joeterps

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Simple install. Simple to use. Does exactly what it is supposed to do, tell you how hot your cpus are and what the Tj. Max is. You can set any alarm to warn you when things are getting too hot and when you minimize it it displays both your cpu temps in your system tray. It's FREE!

Cons

Pay attention during the install or you will install other stuff you don't want like the Blekko toolbar, setting Blekko as your default search engine and some gaming stuff.

Summary

I Highly Recommend it!

"Actually works, beware the scams"

December 28, 2011  |  By Sage_952

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Gets the job done without a fuss. The optional and separate Windows Gadget is everything I wanted and nothing I didn't. Configuring Core Temp to be invisible was a breeze.

Cons

If you have only one firing brain cell and keep clicking accept, you'll end up with a ton of adware and other crap installed with it. Pay attention and actually read what's on the screen before clicking, and you will make it through with only Core Temp installed just fine.

Summary

While there is in fact no malware (I'm thinking false positives based on heuristics) the installer borders on it, using a variety of layout and wording tricks to try and get you to install additional software. It is for this reason alone that I gave it merely 1 star: shame on you, ALCPU, for sinking to the level of con artists.

"BEWARE OF MALWARE! CNET FAILED US :("

December 17, 2011  |  By finvalue

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

I can't add anything to the PROS section because I didn't install the product - the malware scared me away from Core Temp and CNet!

Cons

Stay away from this program! Spybot reports Malware! CNET, I'm very disappointed with this. You are no longer a reliable site to download programs! Better clean this up fast and apologize to your patrons!
