Core FTP Lite is a top-notch freeware FTP client, with a wide, uncluttered layout to keep things organized. Easy to use and lacking only the most advanced of features, like multisite connections, Core FTP is a must-have.
Major functions such as Site Manager for maintaining connection information, Quick Reconnect, and mode switching are given big buttons on the toolbar. When you're connected to a site, though, the file-management pane also replicates buttons for most of these functions so you don't have to mouse very far to use the tool you need. The client supports all essential FTP functions, including multiple transfers, secure protocols, configurable ASCII uploading for specified file types, browser integration, and more.
There are few downsides to using this app. There's no scheduler. Some users have noted past stability issues, both in general and when conducting large transfers, but it seems that many older bugs have been worked out. We noticed no problems during our tests and strongly recommend Core FTP Lite.

Pros: Core FTP is the best FTP program I have ever used. It's easy to use!
Cons: Sometimes it has a timeout thing.

Pros: Not the best ftp overall but the best free one by far., No ads or anything, it's one of the only free ftp's out there. It's a lot like the old free wsftp le. It's also VERY fast
Cons: it's kind of boring looking. It could really use a face lift. There is flicker sometimes for no reason.

Pros: I switched from WS_FTP when I couldn't find my installation disk anywhere, and didn't feel like paying for it again. If I had known CoreFTP existed before, I would have never bothered paying for WS_FTP in the first place. It's great, it does exactly what the others do, but it's FREE! I also love how simple it is to transfer files & CHMOD.
Cons: The only con is that it doesn't give the option to show .htaccess files when you need them shown. But I'll get over it.
Also, to the post before, if you need to reconnect after you've left it idling (which, by the way, is a popular thing for most FTP clients to do) - Go to File > Connect, and you don't have to restart the program.

Pros: Installed on 3 different machines with no problem. Installed and performs flawlessly with regular usage for website maintenance
Cons: Not feature rich, not the prettiest interface. Careful attention required to realize when errors/problems occur. But it is FREE and it works great!
