Conquer distinguishes itself from the MMORPG pack in some old-school ways that, because of their retro feeling, make the game seem fresh--if not innovative. Instead of going for detailed 3D rendering, Conquer's anime style is more cartoony and rounded, and very well-suited to the pseudo-mystical ancient Chinese milieu in which it's set.
You can play one of several characters: Warrior, Archer, magically-inclined Taoist, or a Trojan. The anachronistically-named Trojan is the strongest character, whereas the Archer is the fastest, the Warrior the most versatile, and the Taoist the most magically inclined. Advanced Taoists, whom we mistakenly thought were meant to be the peaceful, contemplative sort, can become Water or Fire Taoists. As in other MMORPGs, when you complete quests, kill creatures, and pick up coins, you level up and become stronger.
Conquer has a more unique backstory, if only because it's not lifted from European medieval fantasy; hobbit-hunters should look elsewhere. The install file is smaller than most free MMORPGs, and the smaller footprint doesn't eat up quite as much of your system resources. Online documentation is better, too, and most newbie questions can be answered by perusing their site. All in all, Conquer is a fun game with a distinctive style, and is absolutely worth checking out.

Version: Conquer Online 5018
"Best free MMORPG for most casual gamers."
Pros: The gaming environment is stable thanks to the low system requirements. You basically don't need top of the line gaming hardware to play. It's even feasible to play with a dial-up connection.
Good support and reasonable gamer protection. Even if you accidentally delete your character you can still restore it. The game developers constantly update the game and have been doing a good job against hackers and bots.
Dynamic gaming. On special occasions and hoildays, new limited-time "quests" are developed to keep the game fresh.
It really is free! Although pay-gaming has advantages, it's not impossible to match a paying gamer by playing for free. It takes a whole lot more work and patience, though.
Good variety of character development. Your character really can stand out in a crowd (wide variety of weapons, skills, clothing, and even hairstyles).
Good messaging system. It's easy to chat with online friends, guild-mates, and enemies. There's even a functional offline messaging system.
Finally, the game's continually developing. For better or for worse, the game gets frequent patches that add new dimensions to the experience.
Cons: Pay for "more" - As in any other "free" game, if you pay money you get better equipment, level quicker, and basically wipe the floor with most free gamers.
It's an old game, so if you join now as a newbie you'll find yourself far, far behind a vast majority of gamers. Good equipment have gotten so ridiculously expensive in the game's player-to-player marketplace and the inflation can only get worse.
Leveling up is a long, boring, tedious chore... but it helps that what your working for pays off in the end.
Finally, the game's continually developing. It changes quite frequently, whether you like it or not.

Pros: It's fun, simple, and easy to play.
Cons: The entire game revolves around things that are only accessible to premium players. So, if you want to play for free, advancing through the game is too hard and takes a very, very, very, very, very long time.
