CNET Editors' review

We review a lot of peer-to-peer file-sharing applications, and many of them are pretty similar. After all, there are only so many things a P2P program can do, and only so many ways that you can arrange those features. With CitrixWire, however, we've discovered a P2P program that is entirely identical to another, which is a first for us.

We had just finished evaluating Addax, another P2P program, when we launched CitrixWire. We were struck by a sense of deja vu. True, Addax's skin was yellow, while CitrixWire's was green, but since both programs are skinnable, we were quickly able to match up the color schemes. We ran CitrixWire and Addax side by side, and they were indistinguishable. Everything was the same, from the interfaces to the features and menus. We're not sure which of these came first, or why the copycat version was released, but we can say that both of the programs are entirely adequate, though not outstanding, P2P clients. Users are connected to the Gnutella network, which contains plenty of content, and searching for and downloading files is easy. A built-in audio player lets users listen to downloaded music files without opening a separate media player. There's no Help file, which may be a hindrance to P2P beginners, but the average file-sharer should find CitrixWire (and Addax) plenty intuitive. Overall, CitrixWire is just fine if you're looking for a basic P2P client, but we've seen other programs that offer more features.

CitrixWire is free. It installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly. We recommend this program to all users.
