This handy tool notifies users when they have new or unread e-mails. Input your POP3 account settings, including mail server, login name, and password, in BurnSoft Active Email Checker's small, utilitarian interface. Negating the need to keep your e-mail client continually open, this program effectively notifies you if you have new or unread messages. You can set the program to check your account at regular intervals and as frequently as one minute. The system tray icon displays the number of messages in your account, complete with date and time of retrieval. Unlike similar applications, you can't compose, respond to, or open messages with BurnSoft Active Email Checker. Despite some obvious faults, this application works well and is suitable for all levels of PC user, although experienced users may prefer a more feature-filled utility.Publisher's description
From BurnSoft :This is a handy little tool if you do not wish to keep your e-mail client up and running but your computer logged into the Internet. Based over the Netscape Mail Notify program. This will check your e-mail account every minute or greater and notify you if you have mail or not to read.

Version: BurnSoft Active Email Checker 3
"Nice design, pity about the functionality"
Pros: Nice simple, small program.
Cons: -*Tells you "you've got mail" even when it's marked as read, making it virtually useless you don't ever keep any read email in your inbox!!
-Only works for ONE email account.
-Depending on your opinion, you may find the male "you've got mail" voice, rather than some kind of chime, annoying.
