BitComet is a powerful, clean, fast, and easy-to-use BitTorrent client. It is P2P file-sharing freeware and one of the most popular P2P protocols designed for high-speed distribution. BitComet supports simultaneous downloads, DHT networks (trackerless), a download queue, selected downloads in the Torrent package, fast-resume, disk caching, speed limits, auto port mapping, proxies, and IP filtering.

Version 0.77 fixes a crash in the version 0.76, and is now able to manage the http downloads.

This free P2P application lets you find and download files using a unique system. On the left side of the three-pane interface, you choose from a long list of Web pages that contain files you can download. Different sites offer different types of files, and the subject matter is usually apparent by the name. When you opt to download a file, a smaller file appears on your desktop, which you then open in BitComet. After a bit of a wait, the application aggregates users that have your requested file and starts a swarm download that gradually grows in sources and speed. We like the enormous variety of files available for download, but aside from paging through categories, there are not many ways to search for specific files. Still, the addition of a preview function helps. The BitComet client offers chat capabilities, stats trackers, and the ability to bookmark your favorite sites. Overall, we think BitComet and the BitTorrent system are a great alternative to most file-sharing apps, and the fact that this download is free sure doesn't hurt.

  Pros: This thing is awesome! It is so simple to use and doesn't take up too much memory. It is great at handling many downloads at once! Simply gotta try this one and you'll never go back.

  "WOW! This Looked Great Until The Adware..."

  Pros: Great program if you like NSIS adware on your computer.

  Cons: Adware is installed on your computer when you install this. Yeah they said no spyware and they might be right but this thing has adware in it. I installed it and the next thing i knew i would get a NSIS pop-up every 20 to 30 minutes.

  "Worst piece of rubbish...almost"

  Pros: None...but this is a legit release. The Bitcomet site is simply behind the times as it links here now.

  Cons: Where do I start? Very poor hash checking-to the point you will not want to leave it unattended. Bug causes random occurances of it junking huge masses of data for apparently no reason. Has happened to plenty of people and in a controlled test of this client conducted by me. Still does not respect private flag 100% of the time. The developers have lied about the fix. Reports bad data to the tracker. Randomly sends junk data to peers. As a tracker admin, I HIGHLY recommend AVOIDING this client even if it's not banned at yours yet or you use public sites. Rubbish like this belongs in the bin. Not on your PC.

  "good torrent downloads program"

  Pros: good speeds, ability to download many files at once, music files come in the album bundles (better compared to P2P clients where u would have to download 1 file at a time). have not found any files to be infected with viruses/spyware/adware (hopefully it stays that way). does not use much CPU and memory.

  Cons: browsing while downloading affects the speed of downloads. hard to find specific files that you want. not many torrents with many seeders (peers) and good health. 1st time users may find it hard to get started as very different to P2P.
