This free P2P application lets you find and download files using a unique system. On the left side of the three-pane interface, you choose from a long list of Web pages that contain files you can download. Different sites offer different types of files, and the subject matter is usually apparent by the name. When you opt to download a file, a smaller file appears on your desktop, which you then open in BitComet.
After a bit of a wait, the application aggregates users that have your requested file and starts a swarm download that gradually grows in sources and speed. We like the enormous variety of files available for download, but aside from paging through categories, there are not many ways to search for specific files. Still, the addition of a preview function helps. The BitComet client offers chat capabilities, stats trackers, and the ability to bookmark your favorite sites.
Overall, we think BitComet and the BitTorrent system are a great alternative to most file-sharing apps, and the fact that this download is free sure doesn't hurt.
Publisher's description
From BitComet :BitComet is a powerful, clean, fast, and easy-to-use BitTorrent client. It is P2P file-sharing freeware and one of the most popular P2P protocols designed for high-speed distribution. BitComet supports simultaneous downloads, DHT networks (trackerless), a download queue, selected downloads in the Torrent package, fast-resume, chatting, disk caching, speed limits, auto port mapping, proxies, and IP filtering.
Version 0.62 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

Version: BitComet 0.62
"After version 0.60 BitComet has lost all of its value."
Pros: Its still free.
Contrary to the believe of that dope, there is NO spyware or adware. And on a side, Limewire and BitComet use two different mediums of filesharing, and are completely different in terms of what users expect to download with them.
Still has a very XP-like interface.
Cons: After 0.59 BitComet has lost is true value, that being, the ability to gain access to private trackers via use of DHT. They fixed this in versions 0.60 (rereleased) and later.
Without this all you are stuck with is another generic BitTorrent client which gets horrible download speeds compared to Azureus or uTorrent, and isn't as often updated as Azureus or uTorrent.
I suggest Azureus or uTorrent, they are much better choices as BitTorrent clients.

Version: BitComet 0.62
"Program shut down my cable Internet more than a couple of times."
Pros: Good interface and nice features.
Cons: The program shuts down my Internet in the middle of my downloads. The only way I could get back my Internet was by uninstalling the program, and repluging my modem to my USB. At first I thought it was my ISP, but my modem said everything was ok. I uninstalled the program, and replugged my modem, and my Internet would come back. Program initially performed and looked good, but not at all reliable. Very frustrating too.

Version: BitComet 0.62
"A very good BitTorrent client"
Pros: A nice UI, good download speeds, and frequently updated. BitComet makes it safe, easy, and fun to use download files from BitTorrent.
Cons: The BitTorrent network is harder to use compared to other networks, and BitComet is losing popularity to other BitTorrent clients like Azurues and uTorrent.

Cons: Not as good as Limewire Pro, but still a great program.
