This free P2P application lets you find and download files using a unique system. On the left side of the three-pane interface, you choose from a long list of Web pages that contain files you can download. Different sites offer different types of files, and the subject matter is usually apparent by the name. When you opt to download a file, a smaller file appears on your desktop, which you then open in BitComet.
After a bit of a wait, the application aggregates users that have your requested file and starts a swarm download that gradually grows in sources and speed. We like the enormous variety of files available for download, but aside from paging through categories, there are not many ways to search for specific files. Still, the addition of a preview function helps. The BitComet client offers chat capabilities, stats trackers, and the ability to bookmark your favorite sites.
Overall, we think BitComet and the BitTorrent system are a great alternative to most file-sharing apps, and the fact that this download is free sure doesn't hurt.

Version: BitComet 0.6
"My absolute favourite torrent client."
Pros: A straightforward and organized appearance. The orange theme is a nice appealling bonus too! Easy to set up associations of torrents with the client. A good selection of preset torrent site favourites and browser integration into the client (option to turn this off and open links externally). Preferences give user all the essential options including some advanced. Downloading itself is excellent, good speeds always reached, and a good amount of seeds & peers found even for the rarer torrents. When you open the torrent you can choose exactly which files you want and do not want from the torrent, which is one of my essential features and I really love it, and you can set the priority for each file and the client responds very well to this (useful if downloading a movie and wanting to see the sample file before wasting hours on it). Detailed selection of information on each torrent, including the individual progress of each and every file and peers & seeds. Overall a very well presented, programmed and stable client, with no crashes or freezing experienced. My personal favourite without a doubt.
Cons: The top toolbar is slightly cluttered for my liking and there is no option to customize it (ie: add or remove buttons). The preview option for music and video gets slightly confused and often plays you the wrong file so this can be a bit of a pain.

"Great for users connect through router."
Pros: Download 1KB on a 3MBPS cable or DSL connection?? the most common cause is that you're using a router and the firewall built into the router is blocking other from connect to you. What Bitcomet does is it takes advantage of the UPNP technology used by MSN to automatically configure the router for you so you don't have to manually forward ports. Of course your router needs to support UPNP which most do. A organizer interface for organizing downloads, unlikely the official version where you have open multiple windows for multiple downloads. BitTornado! ever use that? everytime you close it, it stays in memory so it can upload to others and that causes your pc to slow down. When you close BitComet, it clears itself out of memory so you have no connections after you've closed it. Also supports so many different languages so if you have trouble understanding English, you will probably find your language in the language menu.

Version: BitComet 0.6
Pros: i tried bitcomet because i am sick of azureus. azureus is a great client, but its dependence on java causes it to use tons of memory. bitcomet uses half as much even when doing very high speed downloads (never more than 65k with speeds around 600KBps, opposed to 120-130 with azureus.) bitcomet also has the disk cache feature which greatly extends the life of hard drives (this is what some people complain about it using more memory than expected, it caches the data in memory then writes to the disk in clumps to greatly reduce write/read times on the disk.) bitcomet also allows you to download individual pieces from a torrent, which is especially useful in large .RAR files in which you may only need a couple of files, thus you are not required to download the entire thing to get what you want.
bitcomet is a great open source bittorrent client. its fast, flexible and doesnt use a ton of memory. awesome job developers!
Cons: it could be considered difficult to use initially by bittorrent newbies.

"Performs well, but BEWARE, made by leechers for leechers!!"
Pros: Easy to use and clean interface. The UpnP actually works well, at least for downloading, not many products make you easily reachable through NAT for uploading, so you may have to just forward the listen port, not a big deal-better than a whole range, depends on tracker whether you must. Good download speed and enough features to cutomize parameters for your bandwidth.
Cons: This product seems great until you see its hidden evils. The peer share extension needs to be gone! It is to help leachers and hurts any legitimate sharer as well as trackers. A person can lets say click on a link in their tracker on a public site, you're a member of another site and perhaps have used the public tracker and maybe share a file or 2 on it. Hell breaks loose. The person can be a complete leecher out of slots on the site he uses and download from you the file you got from the closed site. Gets worse, this causes the tracker to get spammed with erroneous data that gets rejected, sometimes with legitimate upload data. Causes tracker problem and your share ratio to go to hell, while the leecher suffers no such penalty with some trackers that take the report of what a said person downloaded from the uploader's upload data. If you want to join good BT sites, stay away unless you get your hands on version 0.57 and get the patch. I did so and am happy with it. Maybe I'll upload that version and the patch to preserve the integrity of BT. But don't ruin your rating helping out leechers, stay away from any other unpatched Bitcomet. some sites have banned this, however, one of which I want to join so I may just get Azeurus and just use it.
