CNET Editors' review
For a torrent-downloading app, Azureus is chock-a-block full of features that set it apart from the rest of the pack.
From XML torrent options to IP filters, firewall tests to UPnP plug-ins, Azureus leads the way in making the torrent experience as customizable as possible. When you install the program, it gives you three levels of option settings, for beginner, intermediate, and advanced controls. There's a configuration wizard, an easy-to-use torrent maker, and dozens of ways to set your statistics logs so you can track download speed and performance.
The layout could benefit from larger buttons. Nevertheless, it's uncluttered and the icons are straightforward--none of those unhelpful "sad face" icons to stop the torrent. In the past, the Java architecture has been a fatal flaw, with Azureus porking out and consuming resources as if they were pies in an eating contest. It's still a major processor drain, but the latest version isn't anywhere near as bad as earlier ones have been, and we recommend this app to advanced users.

From Vuze:
Azureus is a easy-to-use Java BitTorrent client, with support for 27 languages. Azureus connects to the BitTorrent network. BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol designed to transfer files. Users connect directly to send and receive portions of a file, while a central tracker coordinates the action of all peers and manages connections without knowledge of the contents of the files being distributed. With BitTorrent, users upload at the same time they download, so network bandwidth is managed as efficiently as possible. BitTorrent is designed to work better than other file-transfer protocols as the number of people interested in a certain file increases.
Version 3.0.1.6 includes several changes such as adding helper class to make listening to download events across all downloads easier, reducing DHT registration counts for queued torrents, fixing bug which sometimes prevented corrupted torrents being removed properly, and other improvements.

"Fast, reliable - and much to my surprise, I'm loving the Vuze content area."
Version: Azureus 3.0.1.6
Pros
I've used Azureus for a couple of years now and with this version, it's finally come of age.
Cons
Limits on distribution of all the really cool stuff in Vuze. It would be great to see it being made available to Australian users.

"Too much Client, not enough customization."
Version: Azureus 3.0.1.6
Pros
If you are looking for a "Does-it-all" client, this may be the one for you, but the price you pay is in resources. Azureus will do many things that most other clients can't and uses your memory and processing power to do it. Add this to the bandwidth needs of a full service client and you may have more than you bargained for. If your computer is a dedicated P2P machine, you should be more than happy.
Cons
What Azureus needs to earn all of those 5 stars is a way to streamline and customize the many features offered. Ways to turn off unwanted features (for those who do NOT want to see peers' file statuses or each individual detail of every single file, etc).; therefore, the inability to reduce the memory needed to run Azureus, and the lack of a way to customize which user interface displays are shown by default become very obvious on the first time that you attempt to use the advanced settings. Not to mention that the built-in media player tends to load commercials before your files play and you have no way to get rid off the automatic listing of recommended feature items. Yes, Azureus is pretty, but it's still too much for a normal, multi-tasking system.

"Big and confusing"
Version: Azureus 3.0.1.6
Pros
Faster than bittorent, but utorrent still rocks it.
Cons
Big program with too much customization. Confusing. Not as fast as uTorrent overall. Crashes allot! And crashes more than bittorrent.

"Azureus is good"
Version: Azureus 3.0.1.6
Pros
Fast downloads. Easy to use. Good interface.
Cons
I installed the new Azureus (called Vuze) and don't like Vuze. I am going to try to get the original Azureus without all the nonsense content.
I've also used uTorrent and have always come back to Azureus because I like the ease of use of Azureus and the interface much better.
