"best desktop changer i could find"

January 25, 2009  |  By toaster-13

 |  Version: Automatic Wallpaper Changer 3.0.7

Pros

it does what its supposed to do

Cons

no option to make it start on system startup.
would be nice if multiple directories could be added...and they could be enabled or disabled with a check box.

Summary

plenty of options for how often pictures will change. in preferences there there are so many settings...not sure what some of them do. i managed to get it so it resizes pictures to fit vertically.

"Missing One Feature that I needed."

December 16, 2008  |  By JemGirl

 |  Version: Automatic Wallpaper Changer 3.0.7

Pros

It had a number of ways to fit the wallpaper to the desktop and a few ways of when to change the wallpaper.

Cons

Didn't allow you to change the wallpaper a the start up of the system.

Summary

What I was looking for was a way to change my desktop wallpaper every time I logged. That's it. Well, I did want it to fit the screen too, But I just expected that from any wallpaper changer. I did not see the function I wanted of either the program starting up with system and changing the wallpaper then, or the program starting up, changing the wallpaper and then going away. That is only time I needed the program to be active.

I did find something to do that, so if you want to know what I found, feel free to contact me if you can.

"Ok, But Not amazing."

December 10, 2008  |  By Ajedi32

 |  Version: Automatic Wallpaper Changer 3.0.7

Pros

It does what it is supposed to do. It changes your wallpaper at regular intervals.

Cons

I can't seem to figure out how to make it stretch the picture to cover the whole desktop. I don't think it can.

Summary

It does what it is supposed to do. But needs a few more features.

"Does more than I expected"

December 02, 2008  |  By bogess

 |  Version: Automatic Wallpaper Changer 3.0.7

Pros

It does what it is supposed to, without being bloated while still offering a lot of options.

Cons

I can't think of any part of this program that is a negative impacting issue.

Summary

It has a randomize feature that actually works, can orient your wallpaper starting from any part of the screen, allows for a best fit option instead of the limiting 'stretch', has so many other features and variations on features that I haven't been able to fully explore them all, and takes up a miniscule amount of resources to run so it is fast, feature filled, and just plain works.

I've used a number of other programs or widgets to change the wallpaper on my desktop over time, when I start my machine, I want the wallpaper to change randomly from my selected folder.

Other programs I've used have hit repeat papers without ever finishing the other papers in the folder, which makes me wonder about the algorithm and indexing methods used. This program has not run into that problem.

Another major benefit is that the program doesn't grab up a huge amount of memory or disk space, and so doesn't bog down my machine. It also doesn't have a lot of glitzy but completely useless things that have nothing to do with changing the wallpaper on the desktop.

Some might call this program bare bones, I rather think it includes everything that can be applied to changing wallpaper, without anything distracting it from that job which is how it should be.

Updated on Dec 2, 2008

Someone stated that the program used 15 MB of ram? The taskmanager lists it using 6,436 K of ram, just wanted to clear that up.

"Just what I was looking for"

November 18, 2008  |  By Spartanicus

 |  Version: Automatic Wallpaper Changer 3.0.7

Pros

This package does exactly what it says it does: it iterates over a collection of images in a directory and swaps out the desktop wallpaper. It's easy to configure and there are many options.

Cons

A configurable transition effect (such as a fade) between images would be a nice enhancement.

Summary

I prefer to assemble my own desktop backgrounds culled from my favorite artists, astronomy, family photos, etc. I have little interest in commercial backgrounds. This software allows me to throw all my collected and created backgrounds into a directory (with subdirectories if I like) and walk through them at a regular interval. There are many ways to stretch, tile, and/or enhance the images, filter by date or name, and the periodicity can be set in seconds, minutes, or hours.

The main user interface is bare-bones simple, and the preferences dialog box provides plenty of tweaks while remaining very easy to use.

This application is perfect if you want a straightforward utility that does exactly what you expect it to do without any fluff and bother.

"Damages my hard drive"

September 21, 2008  |  By mwallace3

 |  Version: Automatic Wallpaper Changer 3.0.7

Pros

If you have a system under waranty, the manufacturer might have to give you a new hard drive.

Cons

When I install it, my system stops recognizing my hard drive. I starts recognizing the hard drive again after a few weeks.

Summary

I'd die first.
