CNET Editors' review
Have you ever found yourself waiting for your computer to finish a process so you could shut it down? Or do you find yourself leaving your computer on all the time, even though you know a healthy system needs to be restarted periodically? Auto Shutdown is a simple utility that allows users to schedule times for their computers to shut down or restart automatically. It's nothing fancy, but it's easy to use, and the scheduling is surprisingly customizable.
The program's interface is quite plain and intuitive, with a couple of tabs containing drop-down menus. Users simply select the action they want to the program to take--turn off, restart, or standby--and then choose when they want it to happen. The program has several options for scheduling; it can be set to take the selected action in a certain number of minutes, on a certain day (or days) of the week, or on a specific date. When choosing a day of the week or specific date, users can set the time down to the minute. Auto Shutdown also allows users to set keyboard shortcuts for shut down, restart, standby, hibernate, and log off. The program has no Help file, but it's pretty easy to figure out, and we have trouble imagining anything that a user might have a question about. Overall, although there's nothing about Auto Shutdown that particularly impressed us, we think it's a great option if you need a simple way to schedule your computer to shut down or restart.
Auto Shutdown is free. It installs and uninstalls without issues. We recommend this program to all users.

"Does what it should."
Version: Auto Shutdown 1.0
Pros
Has just the features I've been looking for. Small foot-print and is compatible on Windows 7; both 32 and 64 bit flavors.
Cons
Haven't found any.
Summary
Very simple to use. Helps keep energy wasted to a minimum. I'll certainly recommend it to my friends!

"BEWARE! Buggy, almost made my computer unuseable"
Version: Auto Shutdown 1.0
Pros
None that matter.
Cons
After installing and running this program, my system wouldn't power back up - after pushing the power button it would begin to boot then but go back into hibernation before the desktop was displayed. I thought it had hosed my system completely, but eventually rescued it as described below. If you love risk enough to install the program (don't!) you should print this first in case you need it.
Rescue instructions: Power up your computer three or four times in a row, carefully watching the screen. As soon as the Windows desktop shows (for me it was on the 3rd-4th serial power up attempt), pump a keyboard key (I used Ctrl), then close Auto Shutdown, then bring up Task Manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del and terminate any remaining 'AutoShutdown.exe' processes. Now uninstall it!
(Test methodology: Auto Shutdown v1.0 tested multiple times on legit Windows 7 Pro SP1 installation on a on a fully working computer, specifying in different tests '1' and '3' for Perform Action ... Minutes From Now'.)Summary
One nasty piece of software. But don't bother asking the manufacturer to fix it, you can't, as they have no contact details whatever on their website.
My rating is half a star because zero stars isn't allowed. -

"Not Recommended"
Version: Auto Shutdown 1.0
Pros
Decent interface
Cons
Does not work. Not only that, but locks up my computer often. Does not remove all files when you uninstall from the control panel, so I ended up running system restore.
Summary
Using Windows 7 32-bit. When will Microsoft have a sleep/alarm feature included with the OS? Never?
