In spite of its name, Audio Converter also offers tools for ripping and burning CDs, as well as those for extracting sound from video files. The program's clear-cut interface features large icons for performing all major actions, though you'll have to dig around a bit to toggle among the output formats, which include MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, and AIFF. After you choose your desired codec, you can set bit rate or audio quality and even apply normalization, useful when working with files from different sources. We were glad Audio Converter can connect to the online CDDB to retrieve album information and automatically name folders and files according to song title, artist, and so on. In our tests, the program ripped and encoded CDs at the speed of about 1MB per second. If you notice major slowdown in your PC work when encoding, uncheck the high-process priority option in General settings. The CD-burning utility worked fine in our tests, though note you'll have to check a box during the install if you want this functionality. Users who need to handle a variety of routine audio tasks should give this program a try.Publisher's description

Version: Audio Converter 8.1 LP2
"Works OK at best, no better than free alternatives"
Pros: In most cases, it completes the job. Provides a decent ability to adjust compression settings to suit each job.
Cons: Some file types do not work. UI is a little awkward and some settings are in odd places, so some basic settings take a while to find. ID3 tagging rarely maintained whether in version 7 or 8. Version 8 does not appear to have any significant improvements to version 7; in version 8 i experienced the same problems as in 7. My biggest gripe though is that customer support simply does not exist, even for those of us who purchased licenses. I have asked several times about the same issue (certain file types that are supported will not convert) yet their support simply does not respond. Not even to offer a suggestion, or to say, "can't help you, sorry", nothing. Minor issues with software is one thing, in fact it's to be expected, but being ignored time and again after buying a license is absolutely unforgivable.

Version: Audio Converter 8.1 LP2
Cons: Wouldn't convert an AIFF - says this file type is not supported, and gives me a link to a page where I can download support for other file types...but NOT AIFF.
And now I can't delete the .dll files from my computer. Terrible product.

Version: Audio Converter 8.1 LP2
Pros: It was easy to install.
Cons: I downloaded this piece of software for the exclusive purpose of converting .wav files to .mp3 files and it failed to do the job.
