Art Rays Lite is a ray tracing program for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Art Rays Lite creates unique, one of a kind, works of three dimensional art that no one has ever seen before. Each image is created with a series of sphere, box, cylinder, cone (v1.2) and plane geometric shapes each with algorithmically assigned surface colors and properties. Some shapes are assigned a matte, plastic like, surface, others are like polished metal and still others have mirror like reflectivity that catches the reflections of other objects in the scene.

Art Rays Lite is meant to provide hours of fun and suspense as you never know, and cannot anticipate, what the next image it generates will look like. Not every image is a masterpiece that you'll want to keep. Some images will turn out completely black or solid color without any shapes at all. Some images will have a few objects but not much of visual interest. Some with have garish colors that nature never intended to be used together. Best of all, some images will have the complexity, warmth and color shading that will take your breath away.

While it is fun to use Art Rays Lite for generating unique modern art images, the program can also be useful for giving artists ideas for use in their own art work.

PERFORMANCE

How long it takes Art Rays Lite to generate and render an image depends upon the content of the image (how many objects and light sources) and the positions of the objects within the scene. Most images render in less than a minute but some can take longer. Some render in mere seconds. Please remember there are literally millions of calculations being performed for each image and that takes time. Actually, it is amazing how fast the iPhone/iPod Touch can render these images. After all its only a phone or an iPod, not a desktop computer.

We know Art Rays will be criticized by some for the time it takes to produce images in our instant gratification world. Just remember, some good things take time and are worth waiting for.
