An absurdly short trial period, an unfriendly interface, and a lack of atmosphere make Army Men 2 a mediocre choice. We like the idea behind this real-time strategy game, which pits two squads of plastic toy soldiers against each other. But the game's execution disappoints us. Clicking on the enemy is quite difficult, so your soldiers consistently run toward opponents rather than shoot at them. Unselected units sometimes begin following others on their own, and tanks accidentally smash their own infantry. And the 1999-era graphics look tired nowadays. Only a few special weapons, such as a magnifying glass and an aerosol-can flamethrower, indicate that these are plastic GIs, not real ones. Moreover, the download comes in at a hefty 60MB, and the trial period lasts a mere 30 minutes. Some may find this demo an amusing way to fill a lunch break, but we're putting it back in the toy chest.
