Ardiem is the evolution of a little utility I wrote a while back called "CocoaEject". The program is designed to provide simple methods for the user to manage the CD drives connected to their system. Ardiem's features include:

  • Complete support for hot-swappable devices!
  • An easily extendable plugin based system for adding support to new types of devices in the future
  • User selectable system-wide keystrokes for opening/ejecting any of the detected drives
  • A status icon in the bar allowing quick and easy access to all detected drives
  • And, best of all, it's free!

What's new in this version:

  • Several brands of FireWire CD/DVD drives were not properly recognized. This should be fixed now but if any users are still having issues (mainly LaCie users) please send an email to bugreports@chaoticminds.org or post in the Bug Reports section of the Chaotic Minds forums.
  • Firewire drives will not properly add/remove themselves when they are unplugged from the host system or powered down.
