Version: Anapod Explorer 8.9.9
Pros: When itoons 7.1.1 planted an unconfigurable browser object in IE to make quicktime (the single worse excuse for a media player) the default for IE, I went searching. I found Anapod. Had tried it about a year ago but it did not support audible files. I should qualify my opinion. I use my iPod ONLY for MP3 music and audible books downloaded from audible.com. I do NOT do photos, movies, TV, shopping lists, contacts, calendars etc adnauseum. I purchase music CDs, not music downloads. I have not used sync, just drag-n-drop which works very nicely. So for my very limited use, so far, Anapod has been perfect. Right after I installed it and confirmed it worked with audible files I had one of the most pleasureable moments I've enjoyed using a PC. I UNinstalled quicktime and itoons. Andapod was only 25 bux, it works, and if it craps out I can always dig out the old itunes installer that came with the ipod. If I ever have to do that I will NEVER "upgrade" itoons. That's tantamount to knowingly installing a virus!
Cons: As I noted in "Pros" my use is very restricted. Anapod does not provide iPod users a way to configure the iPod as a hard drive. For that, you need itoons. That is a really bad thing because itoons is the most overrated software application that can be installed on a PC. If the lights are still on at Red Chair, someone there should be working on code to enable the software to fully configure the ipod to save users from having ANY exposure to itoons at all. Itoons is hazardous to your health!

"RED CHAIR SOFTWARE has declared BANKRUPTSY!"
Pros: MORAL Bankruptsy, that is...
Red Chair Software has declared bankruptsy and has gone out of business.
That's why they haven't responded to my email support requests.
If you get am email response from these email addresses, let me know. (Subject line should read: "Activation Issue")

Red Chair Software is a WASTE of Money!
What the hell is it with me and CRAPPY companies that are supposed to provide service, BUT DON'T?
The spat between Microsoft and Apple causes our programs to "not play together nicely in the sandbox". Some companies have developed ways to get around this. Red Chair Software, came out with the Anapod Explorer to rip-off the public under the guise of helping to ease the MS/APPLE issues.
When all I had was my one 3rd generation iPod, the software worked, and all was right with the world. Then we got iPod #2, and the start of my problems began...
Turns out, that my "3rd generation" software cost $25, but a "Universal Edition" was $30. When all I had was the one iPod, there was no question. Turns out, though that the one for 5 bucks more will work with "all of a family's iPods".
Why do they do this? Confusion. See, IF you buy the "3rd generation" version and get another iPod later on, you are forced to buy ANOTHER $25 version. If you had purchased the $30 "Universal Version" in the first place, it would automatically cover the new iPod.
Why wouldn't they just sell the more expensive version, and be done with it? Again, CONFUSION. If you are confused about their product, they can sell another $25 version, then they've almost DOUBLED their bottom line. But the public wouldn't STAND for a company who marketed software that only worked with one iPod at a time. So they've got DENIABILITY.
Cons: Red Chair Software can say: "We've got one version that covers ALL your iPods." And LOOK like the good guys. But they're not. Part of the cost of software is SUPPOSED to cover "normal" support. RED CHAIR SOFTWARE DOES NOT GIVE SUPPORT TO THEIR USERS.
This software is SUPPOSED to work on WHATEVER computer you put it on. So, I've got it on my home and work PC's. THIS CRAP ANAPOD SOFTWARE FROM RED CHAIR SOFTWARE RECOGNIZES MY IPOD AS ANOTHER NEW G-DAMN IPOD AT WORK, THAN IT DOES AT HOME!
Now I have to BUY ANOTHER LICENSE from these a-holes at Red Chair Software - so this CRAP will work on my office PC!

Well, "F" that, Red Chair Software. You burned me for $50, and that's all you'll get from me.
I've emailed them MANY times, and they will NOT answer my emails.
Now before you say: "You're all "F" this and ****** that, no wonder they don't write you back." I sent them 4 emails and a web form that were extremely polite. - AFTER WEEKS of not getting back to me, THAT'S when I put the BOXING GLOVES ON.
If you'd like to drop them a line, and ask them HOW they think they can continue to operate like this and NOT create a HORRIBLE REPUTATION as "RED CHAIR SOFTWARE - the WORST SOFTWARE ON THE PLANET", you can reach them at: cardinal@redchairsoftware.com, service@redchairsoftware.com, rouge@redchairsoftware.com, press@redchairsoftware.com, or ip@redchairsoftware.com (Or EVEN all FIVE!!!)
Maybe if they get innundated with the public's emails, they will reconsider their fraudulent ways. (Or at LEAST answer a few of their emails!)

"Rotten Software & Nightmare Activation"
Pros: You can select files from Windows Explorer and send them directly to iPod.
Cons: This activation process (waiting up to 12 hours for approval) is a pain in my butt. It's almost as much of a waste of time as the TomTom activation. The price I paid for their software is higher than most all other iPod software and I would expect the activation process should be instant and easy. They should use some of the money I paid them to hire a process engineer to come up with a more user friendly and quicker (within a minute or two) activation process. I understand they are concerned about piracy but in an attempt to avoid it they placed the burden on the consumer.
Avoid this software at all costs. Even iTunes is easier and more user friendly!!

Version: Anapod Explorer 8.9.9
"The Software is faulty and you will get no support for it"
Pros: At first I liked it and it's a good idea behind the software concept.
Cons: The Anapod Explorer is a good choice for any iPod except for the newest 5th generation iPod. The Anapod Explorer does not work with TV-Shows you can buy on iTunes. If you never plan to buy any TV-Shows from iTunes then go on and try out Anapod but if you plan to buy TV-Shows from iTunes keep your hands away from Anapod. As soon as you connect your iPod to Anapod the play list of your TV-Shows is gone from your iPod. This happens each time. You then have to reconnect your iPod to the iTunes software which restores the play list. This can take up to 20 minutes depending on how large your TV-Shows collection is.
One more thing to consider: As Redchair provides absolutely no support you will most likely get no help if you ever experience any problem with Anapod. They have a support form on their website but you will never get any answer from them.

"Not worth it. Just stick with Itunes."
Pros: Only thing is that it is universal, and your ipod does not have to be synced to the pc to use it. That's why it gets one star for that being the sole advantage of itunes worth pointing out in my opinion.
Cons: Everything a casual Ipod owner needs, Itunes already does. Anything that Itunes doesn't do other programs can do for FREE! Like converting other formats of video into ipod-compatible formats for example. You can use another FREE program to copy everything on your Ipod to your pc. Then syncing with Itunes after that.. problem solved. Once again, not worth paying for.
