Version: Advanced URL Catalog 1.21
"A very good "huge collection of Favorites" organizer, great search"
Pros: If you've got a very large collection of favorites, you probably truly need this program. I'm testing out the 1.22.2 version right now, and I'm very impressed with it. I've got over 13,000 bookmarks in my "struggling" Internet Explorer favorites, and it is SO nice to be able to search and see the search result to choose from etc with Advanced URL Catalog. That is one of the main positives, you end up with zillions of folders and subfolders, it's hard to find things, this program gives you a great search.
I've had my favorites folder become corrupted as well in the past, this program gives you control with your own database, you can export and re-populate Explorer etc. There are many great features, it imports your favorites file with no problems, easy to drop new urls into it, easy to edit title etc, very nice program and the developer listens well to suggestions and is very responsive.
Cons: I had some minor criticisms, sent an e-mail to the developer, and he fixed them! So, not much to criticise on the program. I compared it with around 8 other URL organizing programs, this one is my favorite. Several others were severely lacking, and it is a pain installing and comparing a lot of programs. To me this is the keeper after doing a lot of looking, a very solid database environment for your out of control library of web addresses! I don't think the 'favorites' component of Internet Explorer was ever designed to deal with the quantity of bookmarks we accumulate over years of use, nor is it able to organize well or be as visibly "accessible" to get under the hood in the way Advanced URL Catalog is. Again, the search facility alone, it's great, check it out! No more wondering what folder / subfolder I placed an address at, search finds it fast and shows the path as well in your folders.
