Need to keep up to date? Try the unobtrusive but feature-rich Active Desktop Calendar. Launching at start-up, it displays an attractive three-month calendar view on, yes, your desktop. By double-clicking a day or the sidebar, you can quickly access tasks and see details of upcoming events. You also can display Outlook information and download and connect to other people's calendars via a LAN to see changes in their schedules. The program has a simple contact manager as well.
Considering all the cool stuff it does, Active Desktop Calendar doesn't consume much memory. We did notice a few shortcomings in this generally excellent program. For example, though the window for adding a new note contains a subject line and a body field, only the subject-line text appears on the calendar and in the sidebar. The monthly calendar view looks pretty clunky, too. On the bright side, you can switch among several desktop images and set the program as the default screensaver, which will display several world clocks.
Active Desktop Calendar also exports and imports iCal calendar files and can read your Google Calendar on the hour (though not, apparently, at specified intervals or on demand, which is a bit frustrating). Overall, this program's strong functionality and design make it a good choice for home and business users.
Publisher's description
From XemiComputers :This fully customizable calendar with notes, tasks, alarms and contacts provides seamless integration and interactivity with the desktop background. You can organize your data in layers and share them with other people on a local network. The program integrates with Outlook to show its appointments and tasks on the desktop. Connection with Google calendars and web based ICS files is also available. There are options for changing calendar icons, fonts, colors and type: one, two or three months shown on the desktop. Through interactive desktop the program accepts clicks on dates, appointments and tasks. Printing calendar data is easy, in monthly view or as a list of appointments in a chosen date range. Built-in address book allows you to maintain detailed information about all your contacts and import them from other programs. CSV and iCal formats are supported for calendar data import and export. The program saves daily backup automatically. World clock screen saver is also included.
Version 7 brings improvement to the program's built-in backup system and allows deleting all done tasks at once.

Version: Active Desktop Calendar 7
Pros: It is unintrusive on the desktop and easy to read.
Cons: On loading the software then deciding not to proceed with registration I attempted to remove the program through the uninstall tab on the programs menu. All it did was remove July's calendar leaving May & June. I then went through the motions of trying to remove through the remove feature on the control panel alas to no avail. To completely remove I have to restore my computer.

Version: Active Desktop Calendar 7
Cons: Not a bad program, but not much better that Windows Calendar in MS Vista.
But Vista users BEWARE!! Do NOT install this program if you ever intend to unistall it. I tried to. Wreaked havoc with my PC. It fouled up all of my desktop settings, impssible to kill it by erasing all files. Worse than a virus! Had to do a system restore to final be rid of it.

Version: Active Desktop Calendar 7
"Most useful calendar I've ever tried!"
Pros: I like that I don't have to remember to check my calendar, it's right there on my desktop. That combined with it's ability to combine info from different calendars makes it a top-notch download.

Version: Active Desktop Calendar 7
"This is the one everyone should have"
Pros: I like that its not absorbing all the destop space and I can still see the image I have up. I like that the notifications come up on the day I have something scheduled. This is truly more useful than any other calendar I've used.
Cons: I would like to be able to set it in the upper or lower corner of my desktop, which i'm unable to do. I can manage to have the task/notification window close so that only the calendar shows up, until I have something scheduled to which the window would open. I would like to have options to have different styles of the calendar up including what the push pin markers look like.
