AVG Anti-Spyware offers a high protection level, bolstered by useful features, for a reasonable cost. After 30 days, some of the features get disabled, but you're still able to search for and remove malware, and update definitions manually.
The tools performed well but aren't for the casual enthusiast. Besides the Scanner, which offers four levels of scanning plus a fully customizable fifth, the Resident Shield blocked all malicious components we tried to install, and we were impressed with the overall level of security the app provides: there's even a shredder that offers Fast, Secure, and Paranoid levels of deletion.
The diagnostic tools are spread through different tabs, so options clutter isn't an issue. Still, there's a lot to manage, from running processes to start-up entries to connections--but the program provides little information as to which items are potentially dangerous. In some cases, the program seemed to hog an inordinate amount of memory when its real-time shield was active.
The interface is mundane, with icons floating in a horizontal top-nav bar. The main Status window had quick link jumps to control the resident shield and automatic updates. Update contained proxy connection options, Analysis offered in-depth essential information not only on system processes but Internet connections, programs running from startup, browser plug-ins, and LSPs.

I loved the trial period, I had no problems with spyware while using this thing, and I wish it was free, but I am seriously considering paying for it since it's so good.

I did a fast scan with AVG Anti-Spyware to get these Trojans of my computer that I accidentally installed by mistake, I sat there 20 minutes and it found 1 problem, which was not the thing that kept making pop-ups pop up on me!
And here it comes...ready everyone? This right here is how I know this thing is crap! I downloaded a program called SUPERAntiSpyware Professional, did the same scan, a quick scan, it found over 140 Trojans on my PC. If you people want something that's at least half way decent, then I would recommend getting that software instead. I'm so tired of people telling me AVG is so great, when it's not! And now I know for a fact now that the Spyware version is not! If I was you, I'd stay away from this program and not waste your time people.

hugh database (nearly 1 million signatures) fast scanning, light on resources. i use this program along with counterspy and ad-aware 2007 and between the 3 programs i have had no spyware or adware problems.
Cons
maybe a little expensive compared to counterspy, but the hugh database, which no other apps have, makes it worth the money.

I'm on the Internet a lot. I've used only AVG Anti-virus for at least three years (plus a firewall). I've never had a virus problem. Now I use AVG Anti-Spyware as well. They're good products. Most of my friends use it also.

I have just got a second hand system and had no antivirus operrating system on it and when I downloaded the Avg I found a lot of virus that arer no longer on my system
